The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that they have traded DT Brian Price to the Chicago Bears for an undisclosed 2013 draft pick, pending a physical.
Price, a second-round pick in 2010, has been hampered with several issues, health-wise and off the field.
Price was place on injured reserve during his rookie season after a pelvic injury was found, which later required radical offseason surgery in which the former Bruin saw his hamstrings reattached by screwing them in the bone. Price came into training camp nowhere near 100 percent and in addition to still recovering from the surgery, was overweight due to his inability to exercise.
Late last season, during the midst of the 10-game losing streak, Price was flagged for a personal foul which drew the ire of then head coach Raheem Morris, who ultimately sent Price home – in the middle of the game.
Earlier this spring Price suffered another setback when his sister was killed in a car accident, his third sibling lost due to tragic circumstances. Price was unable to perform in the Buccaneers offseason workouts due to mental fatigue. Price also had an physical altercation with first-round pick Mark Barron and was sent back home to California for the remainder of the offseason.
PewterReport.com reported earlier this year that the organization was considering cutting ties Price.
The team also announced that they have signed LB Thomas Williams to a two-year contract, as well as waiving WR Dezmon Briscoe and DB Devin Holland.
Briscoe was absent for a majority of Tampa Bay’s offseason program, and there was speculation then that the team’s leading touchdown receiver could find himself in the organization's doghouse, as tight end Kellen Winslow and safety Tanard Jackson did earlier this spring.
Williams enters his third season in the NFL after spending last year with the Carolina Panthers. In 2011, he played in seven games and started two, recording 11 tackles and four passes defensed. Williams has played in 15 career games, He originally entered the league as a fifth-round pick (155th overall) by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2008 NFL Draft.
The team additionally announced they have placed DE Da'Quan Bowers and CB Derrick Roberson on the Active/Physically Unable To Perform list and T Donald Penn on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list.
