Here is what you need to know about what happened at Buccaneers training camp on Monday August 13:
Injuries
• The Buccaneers welcomed Aqib Talib back to full contact drills on Monday. The Bucs’ top cornerback was held out of Friday’s preseason contest with the Dolphins due to a minor hamstring injury. Head coach Greg Schiano told the media last week that the injury didn’t appear to be serious, and apparently he was correct as the former Jayhawk was lining up at cornerback during 7-on-7 drills during Monday’s workout.
• During practice tight end Luke Stocker left the field and was escorted in the locker room. Schiano confirmed to the media after practice that Stocker did leave early but wasn’t sure exactly what the issue was, only saying he didn’t feel well.
• Defensive tackle Gary Gibson was again dressed today but not participating in team situational drills. Gibson told PewterReport.com last week he has an Achilles flare up and is taking it easy to give it time to heal.
• Mark Barron was back at practice Monday and appeared to participate in most drills, after suffering from some type of toe injury that prevented him from playing in last Friday night’s preseason game at Miami.
• Left tackle Donald Penn (left calf), wide receiver Arrelious Benn (knee), E.J. Biggers (foot) and defensive end Da’Quan Bowers (Achilles) continue to miss practice.
Roster Moves
• The Buccaneers did not announce any roster moves Monday.
Depth Chart News
• There didn’t appear to be any depth chart changes on Monday although you may see some shakeups among the backups in particular before Friday night. Part of any depth chart moves most likely will be due to the game film from Friday night, but also from the Buccaneers wanting to see some of the younger players perform in different situations and in matchups with particular Tennessee’s players.
Big News At One Buc
•Monday’s practice was closed to the public and shifted to the practice field on the far east side of the One Buc facility. Access was limited for the media as we were situated in what would be the north end zone. Unfortunately the team’s lightning detector went off before practice ended and the players were escorted off the field quickly.
The practice was designated as Alumni Day and the patio and stands were filled with former players dating from the 1970’s orange and white squads all the way up to players from the last few years.
Some of the former Bucs spotted that came out to watch the younger players included Jimmie Giles, Kevin House, Cecil Johnson, Richard “Batman” Woods, Shaun King, Horace Copeland and Chidi Ahanotu.
Schiano talked about the former players being able to come and view practice.
I was disappointed because when the lightning alarm went off I guess they split so I came out after I talked to the team to see them and they were gone. So much for that reunion, right? I will drop them a line. I was glad that (I don’t know how many guys came back), but there was a bunch of guys under that tent.
“We have some rich tradition here. As I have said all over, this community is a tight community. So those guys that have stuck around in the community that’s important to me. I would like our players to do that. You know make this their home. I would love for that to happen. I think the more you invest in something (in all ways) the harder it is to surrender. I think it’s neat that they are out and I would like them to stay part of this program as much as we can.”
• Schiano was not pleased in the least with the early part of practice, eventually making the team start one period over from the beginning. A fumble early, and a bad quarterback and running back exchange was enough cause Schiano to get in the face of a few players who were responsible for the metal lapse errors.
• The Buccaneers announced half-season ticket packages Monday afternoon.
"We're leaving no stone unturned in our efforts to maximize home-field advantage. The Half-Season Plan is designed to give a greater number of Bucs fans more chances to come out and support their team on Sundays," said Brian Ford, Vice President of Business Administration.
The Red Plan includes both the home opener honoring CB Ronde Barber's 200th consecutive start (Sept. 9 vs. Carolina) and the Throwback Game (Oct. 21 vs. New Orleans), in addition to games against Tennessee, Washington and San Diego. The Pewter Plan is highlighted by the Ring of Honor Game (Oct. 14 vs. Kansas City) and a December 9 matchup versus Philadelphia where the Buccaneers will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their Super Bowl XXXVII Championship, as well as battles with New England, division-rival Atlanta and St. Louis.
