Bucs Take Chance On WR Shipley

The Buccaneers are still searching for potential improvement across the board as indicated by the team claiming former Bengals and Texas Longhorn receiver Jordan Shipley off waivers Monday afternoon.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that they have claimed WR Jordan Shipley off waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals and released WR Wallace Wright.

Shipley has spent the past two seasons with the Bengals, playing in 17 games with four starts. He has recorded 56 receptions for 614 yards and three touchdowns. He originally entered the league with Cincinnati as a third-round pick (84th overall) in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Shipley was a highly productive player during his college days for the Texas Longhorns. During his four-year career in Austin,  Shipley amassed  3191 receiving yards on 248 receptions and scored 33 touchdowns. In addition to his stellar work as a receiver, Shipley also produced as a return man, scoring four touchdowns as a punt and kick returner.

Shipley’s NFL career was derailed last season in a Week 2 contest with the Broncos in which the Temple, Texas native tore both his MCL and ACL ligaments, landing him on injured reserve.

    no harm in giving shipley a chance or would you rather we keep Wallace Wright around for the reminder of camp. yeah pretty easy one here fellas. if he does indeed recover, this could be steal of a pickup guys. alot better than hothead parker and sammy. if doesnt recover .... we cut him easy !!

    We're a;ready stacked at receiver. It's a waste of time. Let him go some where he can actually get some playing time. We have no need for him here.

    Jordan Shipley is a better slot WR than anybody we have in camp when healthy. But that’s a qualified – when healthy. The Bengals are building a WR group around Andy Dalton and wouldn’t likely get rid of a highly productive 3rd round pick nominated for the Biletnikoff Award unless something was wrong. Shipley hurt his knee in September, 2011 and it’s still not responding. The Bengals have given up trying to rehab Shipley’s knee. However, there were 4 other teams that placed a waiver claim on Shipley as well. And it is little risk for the Bucs because his rookie contract is still in effect and is approx. 400k/yr. I wouldn’t go cutting any WRs on the roster just yet until we know if Shipley can take the ice packs off his knee!

    It's just a look. I'm not sure what he can do for us that the top 5 WR's can't do.
