What did the Buccaneers players have to say after Friday night's win over the New England Patriots? Check out the chatter from the locker room as thy discuss the win and the unfortunate loss of Davin Joseph to a potentially serious injury.
Josh Freeman:
How satisfying was the opening drive?
“It was a good start. We were able to run the ball. We were able to be effective on a few third downs. Ultimately, yes when we got down to the red zone we were able to do what we needed as an offense which is run the football.”

What was going through your mind when Davin Joseph went down and he was carted off?
“That’s unfortunate.  Davin (Joseph) is one of our leaders. He is a tough guy [and] a hard working guy. You always hate to see one of your teammates be carted off the field.”

The injury kind of overshadows the accomplishment tonight and put things into perspective?
“Yes, it is a preseason game. You hate to see anybody go down in a preseason game, but especially Davin (Joseph). He has been such a big part of us this off season. I am just hoping for the best. We have what ten days till Carolina? But I don’t really know. I haven’t really talked to him since he was carted off.”

Doug Martin:
How important is it to get into a rhythm?
“As a running back, you definitely want to have that rhythm, [and] feel[ing] that defense around and things like that definitely helps with the rhythm. You have to be able to go in and at any time be able to bust a big run.”

You seem to have an ability to extend plays?
“It happens a lot of times. [Defenders] think I’m going down; they don’t know that I got the hand down and I’m still up. It definitely becomes an advantage.”

Adam Hayward:
Adjusting the new defense?
“It’s still a process right now. We got Dekoda (Watson), Quincy Black, we got (Lavonte David), we got great linebackers, but all of us are just getting used to it. Especially Quincy (Black) and me; we come from a different defense. This is our third coach and fourth different defense. We’re still getting comfortable. We’re trying our hardest to buy in and, once we do, you see how successful it is: we’re getting to the quarterbacks a lot.”

Ronde Barber:
Can you talk about Davin Joseph’s injury?
“It’s an awful experience. It’s nothing you would ever, ever want. We’ll all pray for Davin (Joseph). Hopefully he heals and gets a chance to come back eventually…whether it’s Ted (Larsen) or somebody else, they got to find a way to fill that role. (Joseph) is a leader on this football team.”

Michael Bennett
Can you tell us about the sack?
“I rushed and dipped him, and somebody else tried to get me, then I dipped again. He was just right there, so I said I might as well sack him. I just went out there and made that play.”

The differences between tonight’s game and last weeks?
“I think last week we had five three-and-outs in the first quarter. This week [the Tampa Bay offense] played longer, and you got to see the unit working more together. This just feels good to go out there and actually just keep going and going.”

Freeman did look shakey after the first drive...there were atleast 2 passes that should have been easy picks for the DEF and atleast 4 that were under thrown and sloppy...almost looked like he was forcing passes the same way he did last year

Thanks for the info bEubanks11. No knock on Hayward because he played well but I think our D would have been even better with Foster- he is much more active.

Also the loss of Davin is terrible but even more alarming is that we don't have a very good starting QB... Freeman started decent but then what happened? Sweaty palms? Loss of confidence? He couldn't get the ball with in 3 yard of a receiver in the second quarter. Looked like the ball was either slipping out if his hands or that he was doubting himself cause some/most of those throws looked terrible! I've always been a fan but he seems to be regressing every year.. Frustrating stuff. Really hope I'm wrong but he just doesn't seem to have the mentality to be successful.

The loss of Davin is huge but his role as a "leader gone down" may help rally this whole team around him. You can bet Donald Penn will be playing with a chip on his shoulder from now on. Sad to see but this may be what this young team needed to see to really gel. This is a tough, violent game to be played like a warrior. New leaders will emerge this year. And on a side note we hit huge on our first 3 picks, all are absolute studs!

Does anyone know why Mason Foster did not play..I have not seen him on any injury report.
  • avatar

Foster was held out due to what was described as a minor hamstring tweek.

Please not his knee. Our best lineman may miss the Season ? Ugggh. We cannot catch a break. Our two lines are slowly disolving.
