Did you make a change at right tackle with Demar Dotson? Is he going to stay there?
“Yeah, for the time being, yup.”
What did you base that decision on? Obviously he looked good against the Giants.
“Yeah, but it wasn’t just that; it’s cumulative body of work as all decisions are. But I feel good because I feel we have some depth at tackle, which is good.”
Talk about his style – what does he bring to this team?

“He has an athleticism to protect in the pass game. He needs to improve in many ways, but we all do. I just think he gives us the best chance to win this week. It doesn’t have anything to do with down the road or anything like that, just this week, this is what gives us the best chance.”
What is the challenge of stopping Tony Romo?
What is the challenge of stopping Tony Romo?
“Well, he’s a dangerous quarterback and he’s especially dangerous when he extends plays. And he’s a hard guy to keep from extending the plays. When you look at the big play reel, a lot of them are – it’s not initially open and then he moves, and it’s not like a – I mean, he can scramble and get yards, but that’s not what he’s looking to do, he’s looking to extend the pass play and he’s got a strong arm on the run, and he delivers the ball accurately and they’ve made several big plays when he does that. So try to keep him in there, but it’s not easy to do, I mean that’s one of his talents.”
Do you expect Dallas to throw on you considering the amount of yards the Bucs have given up in two weeks?
Do you expect Dallas to throw on you considering the amount of yards the Bucs have given up in two weeks?
“Oh I would think so, yeah. That’s what they - they’re a run-pass mix anyway but they’re not afraid to throw the ball; and until we stop it, why would they?”
Have you been able to find a common denominator for the big plays given up the past two weeks in the passing game?
Have you been able to find a common denominator for the big plays given up the past two weeks in the passing game?
“Common denominator? Well there’s only so many things it can be attributed to. Either we’re not pressuring the quarterback enough or we’re not covering well enough. Now the reasons why that is – there’s several. You can help with play selection, you can help with better technique, we have to coach them better and get them in a better position to make the play, and technique-wise, we’ve got to hold them accountable for playing great technique. That’s our job; we got to get them to do it. We have players that can do it, we got to get them to that point where they will – consistently.”
You brought in Jordan Shipley yesterday – is that because of an injury to Sammie Stroughter?

“Sammie (Stroughter) has an issue with his foot, yeah. “
Do you expect that to be a long term issue?
Do you expect that to be a long term issue?
“Could be. Yeah, could be. You never know when someone’s sore and it’s bigger than you think, right? Could be long term, yes. I thought we’re fortunate that Jordan (Shipley) was available. Because we were comfortable with him when he was here, we really liked him, but just space and numbers.”
What has Mark Barron showed you so far?
What has Mark Barron showed you so far?
“I think that Mark (Barron) has shown that he’s a quality NFL starter. He’s made plays. He’s covered one on one. He’s been a physical presence. He’s got a lot of room for improvement, which is exciting because he’s already done these things, so he can really be a fabulous player. We just got to keep moving forward.”
Would you consider doing less single safety stuff?
“We’ll mix it up. There may be less, there may be more. I would never tip that in this type of an environment. We always look at it and try to do it in different ways formationally. Sometimes you don’t necessarily know, it could end up either or. We do some two play defensive stuff. WE do control it. We have a way to control it.”
So you think you have the guys to play that style?
“Yeah, we all just have to do better. We have to coach better, they have to play better, I do think we can, sure. Now, there’s some great receivers there and we’re seeing them week after week here.”
Is tackling part of the problem?

“I want to tackle better than we have the last two weeks, but it’s markedly improved. I wouldn’t say that, if you sat there and said tackling is the issue, I don’t think so. We want to get better at it, but covering and pressuring, this past week it was incredible some of the throws. Throwing it falling away, that’s why he is who he is. But we have to do better. There’s not asterisk. We have to stop them.”
Does Miles Austin and Dez Bryant present a big challenge?
Does Miles Austin and Dez Bryant present a big challenge?
“Oh, yeah; a big challenge. Both of them are big guys. Miles (Austin) I have a history with. I’m probably the knucklehead of the week who didn’t recruit either one of them, and there’s no doubt, when Michael [Victor Cruz] looked at me at one point during the game, if I could tell you what his eyes said it said it all. Miles got the same feeling, both Jersey kids who wound up going to UMass and Monmouth respectively, so there’s a genius move. But they’re good players we have our hands full back there.”
You were with the secondary a lot during practice - are they just minor adjustments that have to be made in the secondary?
You were with the secondary a lot during practice - are they just minor adjustments that have to be made in the secondary?
“I always spend time there. That’s where I’ve coached my entire career, so maybe I was down there a little more, but I’m always there. That’s where I gravitate. I have to force myself not to go there but it’s like a magnet. It’s not fun to be the secondary coach here probably because the head coach is always there.”
Talk about DeMarcus Ware as a pass rusher.
“I didn’t have a great understanding of him until we started studying the Cowboys, because like I told you guys many times, I didn’t have a chance to study pro football because I was working. He is one of the best players in this league as far as just production and consistency. He plays hard all the time, he’s relentless and he’s got incredible pass rush technique. And he lines up everywhere, too. He lines up as a linebacker, as a D-end, he’s covered down in space, and this guy, not only is he a special player, but I really respect the way he plays. He plays the game with a great focus.”

What challenges does Dallas present to the run game?
“We’re going to run the ball. And Doug (Martin) has done that. Doug’s had a lot of touches. We need to run it better than we did the other day. And I said this. We have to be able to run when we want to run. Dallas is going to have a say in that. They’re going to load the box. They do several different things. One of the big things we’re going to have to do is identify what defense they’re in. Rob (Ryan) does a lot of different things and if you’re not on your Ps and Qs you’ll let somebody loose or you’ll get a TFL or sack fumble. So we have to identify and then execute. It’s really a two-part puzzle this week.”
