WHAT HAPPENED IN TAMPA BAY’S 42-32 WIN AGAINST OAKLAND?
Tampa Bay rookie running back Doug Martin was absolutely sensational in his return to his hometown, thrashing Oakland with a franchise-record 251 yards rushing and team-record four touchdowns in the Bucs’ 42-32 win. Martin muscled his way past Raiders defenders for touchdown runs of 45, 67, 70 and one yards – all in the second half to allow Tampa Bay to get its first win in Oakland in six tries.

Martin toppled James Wilder’s record of 219 yards, which was set against Minnesota on November 6, 1983. Former Bucs tight end Jimmie Giles is the only other player in Tampa Bay history with four scores – catching four touchdown passes against Miami on October 20, 1985.



The Bucs had to shuffle their offensive line due to the injury to Pro Bowler Carl Nicks. Center Jeremy Zuttah moved to left guard to replace Nicks and Ted Larsen was inserted in at center. It might sound strange, but the Bucs didn’t miss Nicks as Tampa Bay’s offense generated 515 yards, including 278 yards on the ground. Coordinator Mike Sullivan and the Bucs offense has scored at least 28 points and gained at least 400 yards of offense in four straight games, which is a new team record.

Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman was outstanding, too, completing 18-of-30 passes for 247 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Freeman has thrown for 11 touchdowns and only one interception in the last four games. Wide receiver Mike Williams had four catches for 68 yards and a touchdown, and Vincent Jackson had a pair of catches for 84 yards and a touchdown, including a game-high 64-yarder.



The Bucs defense did a good job of complementing the offense, with defensive ends Michael Bennett and Da’Quan Bowers registering sacks and the secondary countering Carson Palmer’s 414 yards and four touchdown passes with interceptions by cornerbacks Leonard Johnson and E.J. Biggers and free safety Ahmad Black. Black had a tremendous game for the defense, knocking out running back Darren McFadden on a fake punt reception, forcing a fumble and recovering a surprise onside kick attempt in the fourth quarter. 



The Raiders only rushed for 22 yards on 11 carries and also had backup running back Mike Goodson leave the game due to injury.



After trailing 10-7 at halftime, the Bucs built a 35-17 lead in the fourth quarter, only to see Oakland rally to cut the lead to 35-32 after the Raiders used a LeGarrette Blount fumble to build momentum and score two quick touchdowns. But late interceptions by Black and Biggers sealed the win for Tampa Bay.



After winning three of its last four games, including the last two on the road, Tampa Bay is now 4-4 on the season after defeating Oakland and will return home to face San Diego next Sunday.

HOW DID THE TEAMS SCORE? – BUCS vs. RAIDERS SCORING SERIES
First Quarter – Raiders 3, Bucs 0
Lamarr Houston blocked a 35-yard field goal attempt by Connor Barth and returned it 34 yards into Tampa Bay territory at the 44. A neutral zone penalty on Gerald McCoy on third-and-3 gave Oakland a first down. The drive stalled shortly thereafter and the Raiders had to settle for a 27-yard field goal

Second Quarter – Bucs 7, Raiders 3
On third-and-15 from the Tampa Bay 15 Josh Freeman hits Vincent Jackson with a 64-yard pass down to the Oakland 21. Jackson was penalized 15 yards for taunting after the play. Doug Martin had runs of three and 13 yards down to the Oakland 20. On the next play, Jackson hauled in a perfectly thrown fade pass from Freeman for a 20-yard touchdown to put Tampa Bay 7-3.

Second Quarter – Raiders 10, Bucs 7
Carson Palmer beat E.J. Biggers twice – once on a pass to Darius Heyward-Bey for 46 yards and a 25-yard touchdown pass to Rod Streater on third-and-10 to put Oakland ahead of Tampa Bay, 10-7. The drive took just 22 seconds.

Third Quarter – Bucs 14, Raiders 10
Tampa Bay started the third quarter with a six-play, 80-yard touchdown drive. Martin had carries of six and 10 yards before breaking off a 45-yard touchdown run. Dallas Clark and D.J. Ware had a pair of 12-yard catches on the drive to put Tampa Bay up 14-10.

Third Quarter – Bucs 21, Raiders 10
Freeman hit Mike Williams for a 37-yard catch-and-run to get the Bucs into Raiders territory at the 18-yard line. On third-and-3 at the Oakland 11, the Raiders were flagged for a neutral zone infraction, which gave Tampa Bay a first down at the 6. On second-and-goal from the 4, Williams caught a touchdown pass from Freeman to put the Bucs up 21-10.

Third Quarter – Bucs 28, Raiders 10
On the second play of the series, Martin ripped off a tackle-breaking, 67-yard touchdown run to give Tampa Bay a 28-10 lead late in the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter – Bucs 28, Raiders 17
The Raiders answered with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Carson Palmer to Brandon Myers. Palmer hit Marcel Reese with catches of 26 and 15 yards to key the 10-play scoring drive.

Fourth Quarter – Bucs 35, Raiders 17
Martin broke off a 70-yard touchdown run on the first play of Tampa Bay’s next possession to increase Tampa Bay’s lead to 18 points.

Fourth Quarter – Bucs 35, Raiders 24
Rod Streater had catches of eight and 15 yards, Denarius Moore had a 26-yard reception and Reece had catches of nine and six yards to move the ball into Tampa Bay territory. A pass interference penalty on E.J. Biggers in the end zone gave Oakland the ball at the Tampa Bay 1. Palmer hit Myers for a 1-yard TD on the next play to cut Tampa Bay’s lead to 35-24.

Fourth Quarter – Bucs 35, Raiders 32
The Raiders converted two fourth-and-2 situations and Palmer connected on a two-point conversion pass to Juron Criner following a 13-yard touchdown pass to Reece. Reece had a 20-yard catch earlier on the drive to get the ball into Tampa Bay territory.

Fourth Quarter – Bucs 42, Raiders 32
After Ahmad Black picked off Palmer and returned the ball to the Oakland 22, Martin rushed for gains of 13 and eight yards before scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run to push the Bucs’ lead to 42-32.

WHAT WAS NOTABLE ABOUT SUNDAY’S GAME FOR THE BUCS?
With the victory over Oakland to move the team’s record to 4-4, Tampa Bay has now equaled last year’s win total with eight games remaining. … Cornerback E.J. Biggers forced a fumble in the first quarter and picked off a pass in the fourth quarter – both were his firsts of the year. … Bucs free safety Ahmad Black forced his first fumble, which free safety Ronde Barber recovered on a failed fake punt attempt and also recorded his second interception of the game to seal Tampa Bay’s win. … Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman has moved into fourth place on the team’s all-time passing chart with 10,945 yards, surpassing Brad Johnson (10,940 yards). … The Bucs now have eight plays of 60 yards or more this season, which is the most in franchise history. … Linebacker Lavonte David had two tackles for a loss against Oakland and now has a team-high 11 on the season. Bucs rookie running back Doug Martin wins the PewterReport.com Bucs MVP honors for the second straight week. Martin not only rushed for his second 100-yard game of the season he also rushed for a franchise-record 251 yards and four touchdowns.

Martin also had four catches for 21 yards, bringing his total offensive production to 272 yards. Martin scored on touchdown runs of 46, 67, 70 and one yards. He came into the game with 543 yards and three touchdowns on the year and now has 794 yards and seven scores through eight games. Martin, who now leads all rookie rushers, is on pace to rush for 1,588 yards and score 14 touchdowns this season.

Defensive end Michael Bennett got shaken up on the field in the first half, but returned to action shortly thereafter.

Cornerback Leonard Johnson was shaken up in the fourth quarter after making a tackle and was replaced by Myron Lewis. Johnson returned after a few plays.

WHAT WILL UPSET GREG SCHIANO WHEN HE WATCHES THE FILM?
• Wide receiver Arrelious Benn had an illegal block in the back on a punt return in the first quarter that resulted in Tampa Bay’s offense starting at its own 10-yard line.

• Defensive end Gerald McCoy had a neutral zone infraction on third-and-3 in the first quarter to give Oakland a first down in Tampa Bay territory.

• Linebacker Adam Hayward was flagged for roughing the kicker on punter Shane Lechler to give the Raiders a first down.

• Tampa Bay’s defense gave up two fourth-and-2 situations on an Oakland touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.

• The Bucs didn’t get any field goals out of Connor Barth as Jeremy Trueblood and Jeremy Zuttah allowed Lamarr Houston to block his first attempt. Barth’s 54-yard attempt in the second quarter was wide left.

• The Bucs didn’t register a sack in the second half despite the Raiders throwing the ball 38 times.
