The Buccaneers list of players to injured reserve grew by two more on Tuesday, as the team announced that safety Cody Grimm (hamstring) and offensive tackle Jeremy Trueblood (shoulder) join eight other Buccaneers (Carl Nicks, Sammie Stroughter, Arrelious Benn, Adrian Clayborn, Davin Joseph, Quincy Black, Desmond Wynn and Danny Noble) on the season-ending injured list.
Trueblood, who lost his starting job to Demar Dotson earlier this season, has seen limited action since becoming the Bucs’ backup right tackle in Week 3. The loss of Trueblood now leaves the already thin offensive line even more depleted.
Two games ago at Carolina, starting left tackle Donald Penn was shaken up and the Buccaneers replaced Penn with starting right tackle Dotson, putting Trueblood in for Dotson. With Trueblood done for the season, the Buccaneers have zero starting experience should Penn or Dotson go down.
Originally drafted by the Buccaneers in 2006, Trueblood has played in 100 career games, with 84 starts, along with one start in the postseason. He started 68 consecutive regular season games at right tackle from 2006 through mid-2010.
Trueblood is in the final year of his contract and is not expected to be back in Tampa Bay next season.
Grimm has played sparingly this season, exclusively on special teams, and 2012 makes the third straight season the former Virginia Tech Hokie has ended up on injured reserve.
Since being drafted by the Buccaneers in 2010, Grimm has played in 23 games, with 12 starts, recording 77 tackles, two passes defensed, 15 special teams tackles and two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.
The Buccaneers were awarded WR/PR David Gilreath off of waivers from Pittsburgh. Gilreath (5-11, 169) entered the league as a college free agent with Indianapolis in 2011. He has spent the 2012 season with Pittsburgh, playing in three games.
The team also announced that they have released G Chris Scott from the practice squad and signed S Sean Baker to the practice squad.
