After being denied permission to interview former Arizona Cardinals assistant coach John McNulty last season for the offensive coordinator job, the Bucs settled on Giants’ receivers coach Mike Sullivan. The hire of Sullivan worked out well for Tampa Bay as the Bucs’ offense set several franchise records for production.

Now one year later, head coach Greg Schiano has finally added McNulty to his staff. According to ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas, McNulty will join Tampa Bay as the new quarterbacks coach, taking over for Ron Turner who left earlier this month to become the new head coach at FIU.

Yasinskas spoke to Bucs general manager Mark Dominik earlier on Friday.

“It’s an exciting hire for our coaching staff,’’ Dominik said. “He has a lot of respect in coaching circles. Coach Schiano knows him personally. He’ll work closely with (offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan and (quarterback) Josh Freeman. He’s another great mind to work with our offense. He’s been a quarterbacks coach before, he’s been a receivers coach before and he’s called plays before. He’s a well-rounded offensive mind.’’

McNulty was Arizona’s wide receivers coach for three seasons after being hired on in 2009 and served as the Cardinal’s QB coach in 2012. McNulty came to Arizona after working five seasons at Rutgers, coaching the last three seasons as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks after originally joining the staff as the wide receivers coach in 2004. McNulty had six season’s of NFL experience with the Jacksonville Jaguars (1998-2002) and Dallas Cowboys (2003) prior to joining Schiano at Rutgers.
