The 2013 Senior Bowl week is underway and Pewter Report is in Mobile, Alabama to cover all the action. Pewter Report’s premium coverage of the North and South team practices throughout the week as well as the 64th annual game on Saturday will be free and accessible to Bucs fans and fans of the NFL Draft thanks to The Theater Doctor. Be sure to check back regularly for detailed practice reports, interviews and inside information from the Senior Bowl.

The first big event of the week will commence on Monday morning with the National Football Scouting Weigh-In and will be followed by the South and North team practices, respectively. The Senior Bowl teams will compete against themselves again in practices on Tuesday through Thursday and then will meet face-to-face in the big game on Saturday. Below is a preview of players to watch out for this week.

QUARTERBACKS
Ryan Nassib – Syracuse
Zac Dysert – Miami (OH)
Mike Glennon – N.C. State
In what is considered to be a weak class, the quarterback group will garner most of the attention this week in Mobile. All of the quarterbacks attending will be jockeying for draft position. Two quarterbacks who could make big rises with a big week are Syracuse’s Ryan Nassib and N.C. States Mike Glennon. Also make sure to keep an eye on Miami (Ohio) signal caller Zac Dysert this week.  

RUNNING BACKS
Stepfan Taylor – Stanford
Johnathan Franklin – UCLA
Andre Ellington – Clemson
This year the running back group will feature a handful of rushers that are jockeying for draft position between rounds two through five. Andre Ellington is a quick back who improved as a senior. If he impresses at the Senior Bowl, he could end up being one of the top three running backs selected come April. Oregon’s Kenjon Barner is a speedy back, but some are worried about his ability to run in between the tackles. Barner will be a name to follow throughout Senior Bowl week. Make sure to check out our practice reports all Senior Bowl week to see how all of the prospects are performing at practice. 

WIDE RECEIVERS
Markus Wheaton – Oregon State
Cobi Hamilton – Arkansas
Quinton Patton – Louisiana Tech
PewterReport.com feels that this is one of the strongest positions at the Senior Bowl this year. Oregon State receiver Markus Wheaton is a speed demon with great versatility. He will likely cause some excitement at practices. Lousiana Tech’s Quinton Patton is a technically sound receiver that creates good separation. He could stand out in Mobile this week. Keep an eye on Baylor’s Terrance Williams, Georgia’s Tavarres King, and Elon’s Aaron Mellette as well. 

TIGHT ENDS
Mychal Rivera – Tennessee
Michael Williams – Alabama
Jack Doyle – Western Kentucky
Finding out that Cincinnati’s Travis Kelce would not be attending the Senior Bowl was disappointing, as PewterReport.com thought he could have help his draft stock substantially. However, taking his place is Western Kentucky’s Jack Doyle, who is an intriguing receiving tight end who could impress. Another player to watch this week is Alabama tight end Michael Williams. The Crimson Tide senior was a tremendous blocker for Alabama and it will be interesting to see if he impresses as a pass-catcher this week.

OFFENSIVE LINE
Eric Fisher – Central Michigan
Lane Johnson – Oklahoma
Larry Warford – Kentucky
Central Michigan’s Eric Fisher will likely be a first round selection in April, but a great Senior Bowl week could push him into the top ten overall selections. PewterReport.com will be watching Fisher’s performance very closely throughout the week. Another prospect along the offensive line that could rise this week is Oklahoma’s Lane Johnson. He will face BYU’s Ezekial Ansah in one-on-ones, which will be a great test for the Oklahoma senior. Kentucky’s Larry Warford is a huge offensive guard that is a menace in the running game. It will be interesting to see what he weighs in at on Monday.

DEFENSIVE LINE
Ezekial Ansah – Brigham Young
Margus Hunt – SMU
Alex Okafor – Texas
This year’s Senior Bowl features a strong group of defensive lineman. BYU’s Ezekial Ansah is a freak athlete that could really help his draft stock this week. He could even be an option for the Buccaneers in round one following a great Senior Bowl week. SMU’s Margus Hunt is a mammoth defensive end that should impress in one-on-one drills and at the weigh-in. Some other linemen to look out for include UCLA’s Datone Jones, Purdue’s Kawaan Short, and Illinois’ Michael Buchanan.

LINEBACKERS
Khaseem Greene – Rutgers
Arthur Brown – Kansas State
Chase Thomas – Stanford
The Senior Bowl features a solid group of linebackers in 2013. Rutgers Khaseem Greene is a very athletic linebacker that is always around the ball. He could help his draft stock with a great Senior Bowl week. The same could also be said for Kansas State’s Arthur Brown, who also is extremely athletic and has great instincts. Brown could even be the best linebacker in the entire draft. One more player that could make waves is Stanford’s Chase Thomas. He fits best as a pass-rushing 3-4 outside linebacker and that is likely where he will play under the supervision of the Oakland Raiders coaching staff. 

CORNERBACKS
Jordan Poyer – Oregon State
Sanders Commings – Georgia
Robert Alford – Southeastern Louisiana
Buccaneers fans will be all over the cornerbacks at the Senior Bowl this year. Unfortunately, top cornerback prospect Johnthan Banks of Mississppi State will not participate in the all-star game, so PewterReport.com will not have the chance to see his game in person. There is plenty of cornerback talent here in Mobile to make up for the loss of Banks. One highly-touted defensive back attending the game is Oregon State’s Jordan Poyer, who should be a second round pick come April. Sanders Commings of Georgia isn’t being hyped up at the moment, but his size and ability to play press man coverage could have scouts buzzing at the Senior Bowl this week. 

SAFETIES

Jonathan Cyprien – Florida International
T.J. McDonald – USC
Bacarri Rambo – Georgia
Florida International’s Jonathan Cyprien is a physical, in-the-box safety that fits best as a strong safety in the NFL. Cyprien didn’t play against great competition in college, so this will be a great test for the defensive back. T.J. McDonald of USC will have one final chance to make an impression on NFL scouts this week. He’s also a physical safety with a lot upside. His performance in Mobile could be the difference between a day two or day three selection come April. Don’t forget to look out for Georgia’s Baccari Rambo and Alabama’s Robert Lester.
