The Buccaneers continue to shop the bargain basement, adding former USF standout and Jaguars defensive end George Selvie. Tampa Bay added former Eagles defensive tackle Derek Landri on Friday.
While Bucs fans were hoping for another big splash free agent signing, it appears that chance is water under the bridge at this point. In the meantime the Bucs are still scouring the bargain basement bin for players they hope can improve their defense.

According to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, the Buccaneers are expected to sign former USF star defensive end George Selvie on Tuesday. While no one other than maybe some USF fans are jumping up and down, Selvie should compete for a roster spot help provide some depth along the defensive line.

Selvie had a monster career at USF as the school’s only two-time All American. Selvie set a Big East Conference record in 2007 with 31.5 tackles for loss and led the nation that season with 14.5 sacks.

Selvie, who is just 26, has 42 tackles in his three NFL seasons. Drafted in the seventh round by the Rams in 2010, the 6-2, 270-pounder also had a stint with Panthers and most of the last two with the Jaguars, notching three sacks over his career in the NFL.

With the addition of Selvie the Buccaneers now have Da’Quan Bowers, Adrian Clayborn, Daniel T’eo-Nesheim, Aaron Morgan, Ernest Owusu and Lazarius Levingston listed as defensive ends on the roster. Tampa Bay lost 2012’s sack leader Michael Bennett to the Seattle Seahawks in free agency last month.

    welcome to the basement kid.

Selvie was a stud at USF, but once he started getting doubled teamed, he got shut down. It'll be interesting if he can get back to form from his college days and could be a diamond in the rough if he pans out.

    Adds depth at the position.

Selvie is 6-2 and 270 lb? I remember him looking much taller and leaner at USF. At any rate, I was blown away that we didn't use a 7th round pick on him at the time so I'm glad we have him now.

As a USF alum, I watched Selvie. He was good in college...especially as a soph. & jr., but sr. year played opposite end to Pierre Paul!! PP was selected in the 1st round, and Selvie in the 7th round...don't think I need to say any more.

Tomorrow's contract will tell you how Selvie is viewed. Why wait until Tuesday to sign camp fodder? I'm not saying I know - could be taking concussion tests. But never second guess Schiano!
