The three months of rumors of Darelle Revis to Tampa Bay are beginning to look more and more likely, as PewteReport.com can confirm that Revis will be examined by the Buccaneers on Sunday.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have received permission from the New York Jets to bring CB Darrelle Revis in for a physical on Sunday.
Reports say pending the physical result, a deal is imminent, with some reporting it could be done as early as Sunday afternoon. PewterReport.com can confirm the reports that Revis will be examined by the Bucs today are true.
The Revis-to-Tampa speculation has been going on since January when reports surfaced out of New York that owner Woody Johnson was prepared to move the league’s best cornerback. New Jets general manager John Idzik previously worked in the Buccaneers front office, and the Buccaneers desperate need for CB help, made Tampa Bay a potential – and logical landing spot.
Revis is coming off an ACL injury that occurred last season in Week 3, but according to reports – and video – it appears Revis is ahead of schedule, and barring any major setback, should be available opening weekend. The Buccaneers travel to the Jets opening weekend to kick off the season September 8.
It is still not known what the compensation for Revis will be. Speculation from some have the Buccaneers surrendering a number one, three and a sixth-round draft pick, however sources tell PewterReport.com that is still to be determined.
The Buccaneers are one of the few teams in the NFL that have enough ammunition and salary cap space available to pull off the deal. Tampa Bay has more than $33 million in cap space. If a deal is completed, the Bucs likely would sign Revis to a long-term extension worth between $13- 15 million per year.
