The Buccaneers announced on Wednesday that they have signed 2013 draft pick DT Akeem Spence. Spence is the fourth of the six Bucs 2013 draft pick to sign, and only CB Johnthan Banks and QB Mike Glennon are left.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that they have signed 2013 NFL Draft pick DT Akeem Spence.

Spence (6-1, 307) was selected in the fourth round (100th overall) out of the University of Illinois. He started all 38 games he played for the Fighting Illini, totaling 186 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 26 quarterback pressures in only three years.

Spence was a member of the Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy watch lists as a junior, while also earning second-team All-Big Ten honors from Phil Steele. Spence was selected first-team All-Big Ten by The NFL Draft Report after his sophomore season and earned Freshman All-American honors from College Football News, and the FWAA.

A native of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Spence attended Fort Walton Beach High, where, in addition to his playing football, he was a state weight-lifting champion.

The signing of Spence now leaves just second-round pick Johnthan Banks and quaterback Mike Glennon left to sign. RB Mike James, DL Steven Means, DE William Gholston signed their rookie deals earlier this week.

Tampa Bay begins OTAs next week at One Buccaneer Place.

Scubog- in the immortal words of Austin Powers, "MOLE...MOLE.....HOLY MOLEY.." That's a very clever line you have there about Mrs. Crawford. I may have to use that some time. I don't know why i seem to be the only person who actually "likes" our quarterback. I don't know what folks want out there. Payton Manning sucked at this point in his career when it was constantly said he could not win the big one. Josh has the chance to be very special but like every person in this life, he must go through the experiences in order to conquer them. Instead of wining like a bunch of Eagles fans, how about we let him know that he has our full support as he takes this next hill. Wouldn't that be a) Allot more fun and b) Way more productive?

An article about our new DT and people still want to bring up Freeman. Absolutely ridiculous to label Freeman a "mistake". Maybe he's not one of the handful of elite QB's; but there were a few games last season where he looked like one. Unfortunately there were a few where he struggled as they all do. You people have to stop looking at Cindy Crawford and only seeing the mole. The Broncos drafting Tebow .....now that was a mistake.

I have to say that Dominik is a pretty big man to let Schiano try to run Freeman off. You have to remember when Dominik drafted Freeman, he traded up to get him and they labeled him a "franchise" quarterback. Most GM's would get fired over a miss like that. Dominik is like Teflon, he didn't get blamed for the Freeman pick. I am sure he pawned that mistake off on what's his name, oh year Raheem Morris, because Raheem was at K-State when Freeman was there.

I sure do like what the bucs are doing. The latest interview with this kid Spence is a good one . I like the talent level but i also like the mind set of these kids. Everyone of them seems like a team first guy . I also like the fact that it is a smart bunch of young men. Each one is a pretty articulate and has a good head on there shoulders.Something the bucs didn't always look for in a draft pick.I think coach Schiano and Dominik are on the right path and and they are doing a great job of getting the talent and the smarts this team needs for the long run. GETTING EXCITED ABOUT FOOTBALL ...... GO BUCS

The latest draftee interview is up at buccaneers place; it is of course Akeem Spence! The interview gives more insight on him on and off the field(as all the buccaneers interviews do). It seems the Bucs read the tea leaves on all these players! Anyways, Akeem seems really excited about playing with McCoy, Clayborn, Bowers and his other teammates.

EastEndBoy; It's no longer a big deal to sign rookie players because of what the Player's Union agreed to do so the experienced players would make the money and not the inexperienced players. There really is not a need for most player's anymore to have agents in my opinion.

Ya, maybe agents are only good for getting Taco Bell deals....lol

EastEndBoy; I am too old to know what that means?

Hey Mark - is there something to this Dominik signing from the bottom picks to the top? or is it just coincidence?
