Bucs-Ravens Preseason Contest Blacked Out

Despite high expectations and excitement by many Bucs fans for the 2013 season, the enthusiasm didn’t result in a sellout for the team’s first preseason game. The Bucs host the Ravens Thursday night at Raymond James Stadium.

The Buccaneers announced on Thursday evening that not enough tickets were sold to prevent the league-mandated blackout policy, which calls for the tickets to be sold 72 hours prior to kickoff.

The game will be shown on tape-delay at 7:30 p.m. Friday on WFLA Channel 8, which announced a partnership to be the home for the Buccaneers preseason game earlier this year.

Over the past three seasons 19 of 23 regular-season games at Raymond James Stadium were blacked out.

East end, every game is on T.V.. This isn't the 1960's where they need to know way in advance what broadcast will be on so it can be in the T.V. guide! Last year the Bucs made the 85 percent ticket sells, but not by thursday. All I'm saying is if they're going to keep their stupid rule make 24 hours in advance.

@surferdudes: that's a really interesting point. It would be informative to see the stats between Thursday's ticket sales and the final game totals to understand how many fans are buying last minute (i.e. using their Friday pay checks)...if there is a significant "walk-up" crowd maybe they should reconsider this rule...particularly as difficult economic times persist in America.

Never going to sell out games that don't count, with stars playing only a few snaps. What the league needs to do if they're going to keep the black out rule going is make it have to sell out 24 hours in advance. During the season a sell out has to occur by thursday for a sunday game. Hello NFL owners, people don't normally get paid till friday! We're fans, not owners with cash falling out of our pockets. Before I retired, I'd got paid every two weeks, no way could I buy a ticket on the thursday before pay day. Owners, a lot of us live pay check to pay check, how about letting us get paid before you black out the games.

This BS has to stop!!!!!! Way to go NFL, drive your fans away one more time. Give up one of your best marketing tools....allow folks to see your product. Utter arrogance of the NFL and its owners once again. I hope that Congress (if they ever get off their *censored*), will finally intervene and stop this BS once and for all!!!!
