Bucs wide receiver Mike Williams faces two misdemeanor charges after a complaint was made against him for an incident that took place on December 13.
Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams is faces two misdemeanor charges for trespassing and criminal mischief stemming from an unspecified incident.

On Friday, Bay New 9 first reported that a woman came forward making the allegations against Williams, 26, from an incident that allegedly took place on December 13, 2013. Williams has been arraigned and Hillsborough County State Attorney Mark Ober’s office has the case, which will have Williams head to court within a month.

Buccaneers Director of Communications Nelson Luis released a statement on Friday regarding the incident.

“We have spoken with Mike Williams and the local authorities regarding the charges that have been filed against him,” Luis said. “All of our players are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the high character and moral responsibility that we demand as representatives of the Buccaneers organization. We take these allegations seriously, but will withhold further comment until the legal process has run its course.”

PewterReport.com has requested a copy of the complaint and report from the State’s Attorneys office.

Williams missed 10 games last year due to a torn hamstring after signing a six-year, $40-million contract extension with Tampa Bay in July. The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder caught 22 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Williams has 215 catches for 2,947 yards and 25 touchdowns in his four-year Buccaneers career. Despite having first-round talent, Williams fell to the fourth round in 2010 after he was dismissed from Syracuse in 2008 due to academic reasons. He returned to the Orangemen for the 2009 season, but quit the football team in November.

Williams has only had one other brush with the law since coming to Tampa Bay as a fourth-round pick in 2010. In October of 2010, Williams was arrested on a DUI charge, but charges were dropped two months later after it urine tests revealed that the receiver did not surpass the legal limits of alcohol consumption when driving.

On January 30, 2014 PewterReport.com published a report about Williams' off-field activity that concerned the team based on information from the previous regime, who had deemed Williams' future with the Buccaneers could be in jeopardy due to missing or being late to rehab sessions and team meetings.

There is a reason why Tebow is doing commercials and not playing football in the NFL. He just sucks at QB in the NFL. He was great in college but just couldnt tansistion to the NFL and this is coming from a HUGE Gator fan. Im sorry Owlykat, but I will take an old Payton Manning at QB over Tebow in his prime any day of the week. If Denver resigns him they can kiss thier chances of a Super Bowl win good bye. Tebow would make one hell of a TE if he would be willing to switch positions.

Williams..........great, another problem child. Don't let the door hit you in the @ss on the way out. He is not even close to being good enough to get away with bad behavior, there are cheaper replacements available without much if any loss. I would love to have Tebow, if he played Hback and did it willingly and was good at it, especially the blocking and blitz pick up. Not as a QB though, he is just not NFL material.

    Tebow stinks.

Hardy "Hardware" Nickerson will keep in check! The locker room enforcer is back!

tebow can't throw!!! get over it... lol if he had the ability to be a QB in the league he would have been one
  • avatar

Thanks Scubug. And you are right on. You definitely would not have these problems with Tebo either, as you know. Whatever NFL Team that is smart enough to give him another starting shot, will have a quality QB with as high of good character as you can find. Had the Bronco GM kept his word to Tebo that he would be their starting QB the next year (before he stabbed him in the back and spent the bank on Peyton Manning) they would have won the Super Bowl by now! So when Peyton finally hangs it up, the Bronco's owner would be smart to fire Elway, bring in a new GM, apologize to Tebo, and hire him back. At least their Coach knows how to scheme the offense to maximize his talents (unlike Tedford who requires players to fit his system) I am for giving Tedford the players he needs for his system and see if he can make a go of it in the NFL. I feel certain he can make adjustments at half time--which is a real improvement over the Schiano Dark Ages the past two years. I know Frazier and Lovie can do so for the Defense!
  • avatar

As I see it, Elway deserved what he got when Seattle (with the help of Bennett that the Bucs were fools to let go--as I said at the time!) humiliated Peyton and the Broncos in the Super Bowl.

owlykat,; I think Tebow has already joined a team that was in the Super Bowl? It's called TMobile. I think he is there best player.
  • avatar

Hard to expect all of these young men with vastly more money than their associates (hangers-on) to conduct themselves like (wait for it Owlykat) Tim Tebo(w). But Mike better start realizing how quickly his life can spiral downward. I always concluded that a person turns into a full-fledged adult at age 26. Even Dr. Phil reached the same conclusion. It's time Mike! This incident seems pretty minor. Let's hope it isn't the tip of the iceberg. Ask Mike Vick about hanging with the homeboys.

This is a test for Lovie to show that he can take Williams under his wing and get him straightened out. Remember when Talib could not be controlled by the Bucs with our Dumbo Coach but when New England got ahold of him they were able to get him to perform far better than he ever did with the Bucs and had no off the field problems after he was traded to them. That is what a smart NFL Coach can do. I have faith Louie can make that difference with Williams. Yes this is a case with him associating with rif raf in part and probably letting all that money going to Williams' head too. He just needs to mature and pay attention to his career!
  • avatar

He might be 26 years old, but his maturity is that of a 16 year old. My guess is the charges will go no where. If Williams doesn't have a good year then he will have plenty of time to be with his rap group.
  • avatar

Maybe a Freeman influence on him?
  • avatar

This guys falling apart; I'm tempted to argue it's hanging out with the wrong crowd . . .

Way to start off making a great first impression with the new staff Mike!
