The Buccaneers signed former Eagles and Northwestern QB Mike Kafka on Monday giving them three quarterbacks on the roster. Kafka was a fourth-round draft pick in 2010 by Philadelphia.
Many Buccaneers fans are eager for Tampa Bay to bring in a new quarterback to unseat incumbent Mike Glennon in 2014. Tampa Bay did in fact make a roster move. signing former Eagles quarterback Mike Kafka on Monday, but Glennon’s job isn’t likely in jeopardy from the street free agent.

The 6-2, 224-pound QB played his college football for Northwestern and ended his career Kafka throwing for 4,265 yards, 19 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He also added 891 yards and 11 touchdowns on 268 carries on the ground during his time under center for the Wildcats.

One of Kafka’s most memorable games actually took place inside Raymond James Stadium where in 2010 Kafka’s Northwestern team faced the Auburn Tigers in the Outback Bowl. Kafka set the all-time Outback Bowl record with 47 completions on 78 passing attempts. He set Northwestern and Outback Bowl records with 532 passing yards on the afternoon but unfortunately also set an Outback Bowl record with five interceptions.

Kafka was selected by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft and served primarily as the team’s third-string quarterback. During his time in Philadelphia Kafka appeared in four games and was 11-of-16 for 107 yards and two interceptions. After being released by the Eagles, Kafka spent time briefly with the Patriots and Jaguars.

Kafka isn’t expected to challenge Glennon and many expect the Buccaneers to either sign a veteran free agent or select one in the upcoming May draft. Kafka most likely will compete with Jordan Rodgers for the third-string role.

Whats the chance that the Bucs would sign DE Bennet or Michael Johnson? Draft Watkins, an O-linemen and pick up an OLB late rounds to compliment David and another draft pick/free agent for nickel corner. Speedy and smart. That leaves a tight end for next year

i look forward to PR's witty use of "kafkaesque" in future writings

Just a cheap hire. I hope this is not what our new GM calls a value FA. We need a real GM. The Glazers should never have let DOM go! DOM found the hidden Gems like now New England's prized Big Back who scored four touchdowns in a playoff game!

Good joke there owlykat. A real GM like DOM? Yea that's funny stuff!

I think this is the end for Jordan Rodgers otherwise this signing doesn't make sense.
