Will Ruud Report For Mandatory Mini-Camp?

Bucs MLB Barrett Ruud has skipped OTAs over his contract, but will he show up for Tuesday's mandatory mini-camp? Ruud has missed the installation of the new defense, prompting LBs coach Joe Barry to say, "I’d be lying to you if I said, ‘Oh no, Barrett didn’t miss anything. He’ll be fine.'"

   
Bucs Sign DT Miller
Bucs rookie defensive tackle Roy Miller signed his rookie contract Monday. The deal is for four years. Miller, who was Tampa Bay's 2009 third-round draft pick, played collegiately at Texas and will compete for playing time at defensive tackle in training camp. The Bucs released QB Brian Griese to make room for Miller.
   
Freeman Inks Rookie Deal
Tampa Bay signed first-round pick Josh Freeman to his rookie contract Friday. Freeman signed a five-year deal with the Bucs. Freeman, who was the 17th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, will report to training camp with his teammates today.
   
Tampa Bay Inks WR Stroughter To 4-Year Deal
The Bucs signed another draft pick Friday, inking wide receiver Sammie Stroughter to a four-year contract. Stroughter missed Tampa Bay's mandatory mini-camp practices with a hamstring injury. To make room for Stroughter, the Bucs released WR Amari Jackson, as well as LB Jamall Johnson and CB Evan McCollough.
   
Bucs Sign Moore, Biggers To 4-Year Contracts
The Buccaneers signed two more draft picks Tuesday, inking fourth-round pick Kyle Moore and seventh-round selection E.J. Biggers to their rookie deals. Both players signed four-year contracts. The Bucs have just two picks -- DT Roy Miller and QB Josh Freeman -- unsigned.

Bucs middle linebacker Barrett Ruud participated in Tampa Bay's mandatory mini-camp practices Tuesday. He acknowledged that his absence from voluntary organized team activities was related to his desire for a long-term, lucrative contract, but said progress hasn't been made on that front.

Mahan Restructures Contract
Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup offensive lineman Sean Mahan restructured his contract for the 2009 season. Mahan was scheduled to make $3 million in base salary, but is now slated to make $1.6 million next season. Mahan originally signed the five-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers before the 2007 season.

Bucs Not Big Spenders Over Past Five Years
The Buccaneers were the league's lowest spenders in terms of player payroll over the past five seasons (2004-08), according to a recent article published on NFL.com. The Bucs spent $449 million in payroll during that time period. The biggest spender - the Dallas Cowboys - invested $566 million in player payroll.
   
Bucs Announce 2009 Training Camp Schedule
