Breaking Down Tampa Bay's Roster

Morris Names Freeman Backup QB
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris addressed the Bucs trade of QB Luke McCown and the roster cuts. Morris said the trade did have a lot to do with rookie QB Josh Freeman. Morris said Freeman will be the backup, and explained why Freeman would perform better in the regular season.
   
Seven Signed To Practice Squad
The Buccaneers signed seven players to their practice squad on Sunday. They also claimed two players off waivers. DE Maurice Evans was waived by the New York Giants, and CB William Middleton had been waived by the Atlanta Falcons. Evans and Middleton fill out the Bucs roster to the limit of 53 players.
   
Bucs Name Cadillac Williams Starting RB
Expect all three of Tampa Bay's primary running backs to carry the ball this season, but against the Dallas Cowboys in Sunday's season opener, Cadillac Williams gets the starting nod over Derrick Ward and Earnest Graham. Williams makes his triumphant return from a season-ending knee injury against Oakland in 2008.
   
Cadillac Inspires Teammates
Tampa Bay RB Cadillac Williams was happy to be named the starter, but he plans on being part of a running-back-by-committee approach. The former first-round pick has inspired some of his teammates with his ability to overcome two major knee injuries in as many seasons.
   
Olson Tweaks Offense
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Greg Olson discussed his expanded role on Tuesday. Olson said the offense would have some changes, but will move forward with the foundation set by previous offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski.
   
Bryant, Clayton Rested And Ready To Go
Bucs WR Antonio Bryant missed the entire preseason due to a knee injury that required surgery. Bryant and WR Michael Clayton, who had a hamstring injury, are ready to go and aren't too concerned about the rust factor.
   
Bucs Hope To Prove Doubters Wrong With Win Over Cowboys
Tampa Bay began preparing for its first opponent of the 2009 regular season - the Dallas Cowboys - on Tuesday. The Bucs have respect for the Cowboys. The team believes it can prove some skeptics wrong by pulling off the Week 1 upset at home.
   
Talib Will Play Against Dallas
Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris said that cornerback Aqib Talib will stay in the lineup. Morris said there has been nothing done to warrant in-house discipline yet because nothing has happened with Talib from a legal and league punishment standpoint.
   
Winslow Winning Over Teammates
Tampa Bay tight end Kellen Winslow had a quiet preseason, but he's won over his new teammates with his competitive edge. Winslow is also looking forward to the start of the regular season, where he will be featured more often.
   
Bucs Name Team Captains
The Buccaneers named their team captains for the 2009 season Wednesday. Bucs C Jeff Faine and QB Byron Leftwich were voted offensive captains while CB Ronde Barber and DT Chris Hovan were voted defensive captains. Safety Will Allen was voted the special teams captain.
   
Bucs Don't Anticipate Blackout For Home Opener
Although the game hasn't sold out yet, Tampa Bay's 2009 regular season home opener vs. the Dallas Cowboys might not be blacked out in the Tampa Bay area. The Bucs said Wednesday that they anticipate a sellout for the contest at Raymond James Stadium.

Tampa Bay's 2009 regular season home opener vs. Dallas on Sunday will be broadcast on local television, the Bucs confirmed Thursday. However, there still are tickets available for Sunday's game, which can be purchased through TicketMaster.com.
   
Bucs Promote CB Arrington To Active Roster
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a pair of roster moves Thursday, promoting CB Kyle Arrington from the practice squad to the active roster. In order to make room for Arrington, the Bucs released CB William Middleton.
