Just Grillin sponsors PewterReport.com’s Pewter Player of the Week, which is given to Tampa Bay’s MVP as selected by the PewterReport.com staff every Tuesday following the most recent game.
Bucs weakside linebacker Lavonte David had a whale of a game on Sunday in a 45-17 blowout win at Philadelphia. With six tackles and two interceptions, including his first career pick-six, David was part of a defense that slammed the brakes on the Eagles’ fast-paced offense.
Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin was sensational in rushing for a season-high 235 yards, thanks to a career-long 84-yard run, which was the longest in team history. Martin was 17 yards short of breaking his own franchise record of 251 yards that he set as a rookie in 2012 against Oakland.
As well as those Buccaneers played against the Eagles, rookie quarterback Jameis Winston was magnificent in throwing for a career-high five touchdowns and becoming just the third rookie QB in NFL history to accomplish that feat. Winston’s five touchdown passes also tied the franchise record.
For his efforts, Winston is this week’s Just Grillin Pewter Player of the Week.
Winston had the best game of his young career against Philadelphia, completing 19-of-29 passes for 246 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. His QB rating of 131.6 was higher than that of Carolina quarterback Cam Newton, who also threw for five touchdowns and 246 yards in a win over Washington.
Winston has completed 183-of-314 passes (58.3 percent) for 2,405 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions and a QB rating of 86.5. He needs five touchdowns to break Tampa Bay’s record for most quarterback passes by a rookie, which was set in 2013 by Mike Glennon, who threw 19.
Winston also has rushed for 118 yards and four touchdowns on 34 carries (3.5 avg.) this season in helping Tampa Bay to a 5-5 record.
Because he’s this week’s Just Grillin Pewter Player of the Week, Winston will receive a certificate $50 gift certificate to Just Grillin in Carrollwood.

In my best Napoleon Dynamite… “Yessssss.”
Except for Brad Johnson throwing 5 td’s vs the Vikes in Tampa in I think 2001 this was best qb performance by a Bucs qb of all time
After a standout performance against the Eagles, Jameis Winston has been nominated for the NFL’s Rookie of the Week award for Week 11.
Winston was nominated for the NFL’s Rookie of the Week award twice in Week 2 and Week 5. Both times, Winston won. I think he wins for a 3rd time this week. A couple more like this and we may be looking at the NFL OROY. (excerpts from Buccaneer.com)
Hard to beat Gurley and Cooper
