No doubt Evans has to receive a contract extension and it would be an insult to him to bring in another high priced WR. Since you are saying that this is a deep WR draft, there does not seem to be any reason to bring in a free agent WR. Therefore where do you think the Bucs should spend some of their excessive cap space in free agency?

I thought he would get offered the job in Jacksonville but not San Diego. Regardless if it isn’t the right fit career wise, you should never pass up the chance to live in San Diego. Perfect weather all year round, gorgeous beaches, bikinis and more money than you can possibly imagine.
If he continues what he did this year, there is no doubt in my mind that he will get a better opportunity. Hopefully all of the defensive position coaches are learning as much as they can from this guy before he does get a new head coaching job

i like this guy. he may have been the steal of the draft, excluding dak prescott of course

As a statistician myself, I found this article very interesting. I think a tall WR should be the priority for the fact that it creates a mismatch for somebody. Although I do not think a small fast WR would be as beneficial. Even though a speedy WR should be able to create more big plays and stretch the field. I don’t think that leads to a ball…[Read more]

the way this season went, you should give separate grades for the 1st and 2nd halves of the season. if you did the secondary would have gone from an F to an A

I like your picks. A tall WR and a bruising RB is also what I think would help the offense the most. On offense I like to see the battering ram type of approach. It wears down the opposing defense and keeps our defense off the field.

I disagree with the McCoy comment. Up to this year I was not much of a fan of McCoy. During the second half of the season I noticed nearly every game the commentators stating that the Bucs were only rushing their front 4. You can’t do that unless you have a dominant DT that can stop the run and get to the QB. My only concern is how long can…[Read more]

Kind of sounds like what that idiot Schiano did to the Bucs. Every time I hear about how strong NE’s running game is (Blount) or Denver’s pass defense (Talib) is it just reminds me of how lousy of a coach he was
jshumaker commented on the post, Bucs’ Lynch Named Hall Of Fame Finalist For Fourth Straight Year 2 weeks ago
None of the prior years he was a finalist, did I think he would make it in. Neither Dawkins nor Law was a cornerstone of their team’s defense. IMO that puts him as the top player in the secondary. So I think he makes it this year.

If he wants to resign with the Bucs after they release him, then you won’t hear any complaints from me. But I think we both agree that there is no way he is playing for the Bucs next year under his current contract for $7 million
jshumaker commented on the post, UPDATED: Bucs RB Martin Faces Suspension For Drug Violation 2 weeks, 6 days ago
Great question! Koetter still benched Martin for a game that was basically a win and your in the playoffs type of game. The Bucs had nothing to gain by benching him. The only explanation for both the benching and Martin stating he needs to enter rehab, is that there is a more serious drug involved and not just PEDs.
Sucks for Martin. If you…[Read more]

Jameis’s development is the silver lining of the Bucs missing the playoffs. We all know he will be working this entire off season to get better. Hopefully a few draft picks spent on the offense and a more mature wiser Jameis should be enough to get this offense into a top tier scoring offense next year.
The second year for a QB is supposed to…[Read more]
jshumaker commented on the post, Koetter Mum On Bucs RB Martin’s Future Status 3 weeks ago
I think that is an over reaction to Martin getting benched. Koetter called out ASJ at the beginning of the season. Turns out that he had a valid reason for doing that. My question is, what is the real reason Martin was deactivated? That is a huge difference from being put on the bench. There is something else there that we are not being told
I didn’t even think about that. Although my guess is that we wouldn’t get that much for him. Maybe a 3rd round pick at best. Which I would not consider enough for a trade
jshumaker commented on the post, Pewter Report’s Bucs Monday Mailbag 12-26: Martin, Draft Needs And More 3 weeks ago
From what I have heard the announcers say for the second half of the year, we are only rushing our front 4. If so, then they are running at least a version of the cover 2 defense
jshumaker commented on the post, Bucs Place TE Brate, CB Adjei-Barimah On IR 3 weeks ago
As much as Jameis likes to throw to his TE, I think they now have to spend at least one of their first 3 picks on a TE. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Brate but we are thin at TE
jshumaker commented on the post, Koetter Mum On Bucs RB Martin’s Future Status 3 weeks, 1 day ago
I am reserving judgement on Martin for now. I remember hearing a commentator classify Martin as a type of RB that only performs well when he is 100% but lousy when he has any type of nagging injury. Plus he seems to do better when the defense is spread out. Since our top draft picks are probably going to be spent on the offense this year, he…[Read more]

I see what you are saying. Plus with the injuries to Carr and Mariotta this weekend it does remind us how important your QB’s health is. Although I would prefer continue focus on the o-line. Prescott looks like Brady behind that o-line
jshumaker commented on the post, Pewter Report’s Bucs Monday Mailbag 12-26: Martin, Draft Needs And More 3 weeks, 1 day ago
I agree, game is won in the trenches and in order to run the cover 2 defense you must have pressure up the middle. Therefore DT is on my wish list along with O-line. Also since Jameis clearly does like to throw to TE’s I think that has to be considered.
