Tampa Bay radio color commentator and former Bucs linebacker Hardy Nickerson has been hired by Chicago, Bears head coach Lovie Smith announced in a press conference from the NFL Combine on Friday.

Nickerson, who spent one season in the Bucs' broadcast booth, will serve as Chicago's new linebackers coach, a position that became open when the Bears promoted Bob Babich to defensive coordinator last week.

"Hardy is a guy I've known for a number of years, and I've always wanted him on our staff here," Smith was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.

It is not yet clear who Tampa Bay plans to replace Nickerson with on the Bucs' Radio Network. Last year, Nickerson replaced Scot Brantley as the radio color commentator.
