The Bucs are down to two active-roster running backs after the waiver of fourth-year pro Mike James.
Tampa Bay announced the move at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday. James picked up only 20 yards on 13 carries and 37 yards on three receptions this preseason, but he didn’t appear in the final two games.
James has been with the Bucs for parts of the past three seasons after being drafted by Tampa Bay in the sixth round of the 2013 draft. This is the second time in as many years the team’s waived the University of Miami product in September. He was let go at the end of the month last season before being re-signed and placed on the practice squad days later.
James didn’t appear in a regular season game in 2015. He’s rushed 79 times for 332 yards and caught 11 passes for 38 yards in his career, including a 28-carry, 158-yard performance against the Seattle Seahawks in 2013.
The team didn’t make a correlating move yet to fill out the 53-man roster. Rookie running backs Peyton Barber and Russell Hansbrough are on the practice squad.
Wow. I am amazed. I am really trying to figure out what Bucs are thinking. Are they going to bring someone back ? If Martin goes down are they prepared to go with just Sims ? Maybe move Peyton Barber up to the 53 man roster ?
Far be it for me to tell Licht how to do his job 🙂 , but we may want more than 2 RBs to suit-up on Sunday…and it’s now Wednesday…your move Mr Licht…
RB Peyton Barber moved from practice squad to the 53 roster.
