Chicago allowed four sacks and produced just nine first downs while crossing midfield just three times. The Bears’ defense scored the team’s only touchdown in the third quarter when cornerback Jerry Azumah picked off Redskins QB Mark Brunell and returned it 70 yards for the score.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the St. Louis Rams on Monday Night Football, 28-21. The visiting Bucs produced 336 yards of total offense, but two fumbles inside the Rams’ red zone, two missed field goals by kicker Martin Gramatica and a botched quarterback-center exchange, which resulted in a fumble on Tampa Bay’s own 5-yard line, proved to be costly mistakes. Bucs rookie wide receiver Michael Clayton recorded eight catches for 142 yards. Defensive end Greg Spires notched two sacks, one of which forced Rams QB Marc Bulger to fumble and set up a score for the Bucs offense.
