LAST WEEK: The Denver Broncos defeated the San Diego Chargers last Sunday, 23-13. The Broncos produced 328 yards of offense and only allowed the Chargers’ offense to produce 214 yards. Although Denver converted just 18 percent of its third down attempts, Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer completed 25-of-36 passes for 294 yards and tossed two touchdowns en route to victory.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the Oakland Raiders on Sunday Night Football, 30-20. The Raiders led the Bucs by 24 points in the fourth quarter, but quarterback Brad Johnson, who had thrown a interception that got returned by cornerback Phillip Buchanon for a touchdown earlier in the game, threw two touchdown passes in the final quarter of the contest. Tampa Bay’s defense allowed Oakland to rush for 173 yards on 31 carries (5.6 avg.) on Sunday night. Raiders running back RB Tyrone Wheatley rushed 18 times for 102 yards (5.7 avg.) and broke off a 60-yard run on his first carry of the game. The Bucs didn’t force the Raiders to punt until more than midway through the fourth quarter.
