LAST WEEK: The San Diego Chargers downed the visiting Denver Broncos last Sunday, 20-17. Denver outgained San Diego 337-208, but Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer was picked off four times while completing just 16-of-40 passes for 278 yards. Broncos running back Rueben Droughns was held to just 38 yards rushing, but wide receiver Ashley Lelie hauled in four passes for 105 yards. San Diego middle linebacker Donnie Edwards notched a whopping 20 tackles while the Chargers only allowed the Broncos to convert 29 percent of their third down tries. Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson carried the ball 30 times for 113 yards (3.8 avg.) and two touchdowns.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers posted a 27-0 shutout win over the Atlanta Falcons at Raymond James Stadium last Sunday. Tampa Bay’s defense sacked Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick five times and picked him off twice. Bucs LB Derrick Brooks and defensive end Simeon Rice each caused Vick to fumble, and DE Greg Spires recovered both of them. Bucs wide receiver Joey Galloway caught four passes for 63 yards and scored a touchdown while running back Michael Pittman rushed 17 times for 68 yards (4.0 avg.) and one score. Bucs QB Brian Griese was sacked three times, but he still managed to compete 61 percent of his passes and throw for 131 yards and one touchdown.

THE LAST TIME THESE TWO TEAMS MET: November 17, 1996: Tampa Bay and San Diego clashed in California for this contest and the visiting Bucs downed the Chargers, 25-17.

BUCS-CHARGERS SERIES: The Buccaneers are 1-6 all-time in the regular season against the Chargers, including 1-2 in games played in San Diego.
