The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have claimed former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Michael Hawkins, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Hawkins, who was cut by the Cowboys Tuesday, originally entered the NFL as a 2005 fifth-round pick with the Green Bay Packers.

The 6-foot-1, 187-pound Hawkins played collegiately at Oklahoma, and has played with Green Bay (2005), Cleveland (2006), Minnesota (2006) and Dallas (2009), in addition to spending two seasons (2004-05) with the Arena League's Dallas Desperados.

Hawkins, 26, was injured for most of training camp before being released. With safety Tanard Jackson suspended for the first four games of the 2009 regular season the Bucs saw value in adding another defensive back to their roster.

Interestingly, the Bucs open the 2009 regular season at home vs. Dallas, which is Hawkins' former team.
