Odell Beckham Jr. might have been the only player standing in the way of a Mike Evans landslide win for “Best Rookie Wide Receiver” in 2014, but the former Aggie star had only positive things to say about his fellow wideout.
“He’s a great receiver, one of the best in the game,” Evans said Thursday in open locker. “He runs great routes, runs very quick and plays with a lot of swag. He’s a fun guy to watch… They don’t get the film we get but he can block his butt off, (too). He goes out there and plays hard. You can tell he loves football.”
While he ultimately competes against the defense, Evans still pays attention to his competition around the league at wide receiver and uses elite players as measuring sticks for his own game.
“I measure myself against everybody,” he said. “(Beckham Jr. is) one of the best so I guess I’ll measure myself against him.”
With the Giants 32nd ranked pass defense – giving up an average of 315 through the air – and the Bucs secondary still trying to find the right combination, many are expecting Sunday’s game to be a pass-happy shootout. Which could mean big things for both No. 13’s.
Evans wouldn’t mind that – at least on one side of the ball.
“I like scoring points,” Evans said. “I don’t know if (13 touchdowns) will happen again (like it did last Sunday between Saints and Giants). We’ve seen some things on film that we like. Hopefully they don’t switch up their game plan too much and hopefully we score a lot of points.”
