The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hired Douglas Daley to be their director of football administration. Daley will be the Bucs contract negotiator, and will be have a hand in managing the Bucs salary cap. Prior to the hiring of Daley, all of those duties fell to general manager Mark Dominik. Daley has lived in the Tampa area, and his background is in commercial real estate contracts.
After the larger amount of turnover in the Bucs front office this offseason, Dominik was in need of staff to help him with contract negotiations and salary cap management.
Daley's duties will be tasks that were previously performed by former senior assistant Kevin Demoff and former director of football operations Mark Arteaga. Arteaga was fired with former head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Bruce Allen. Demoff left the Buccaneers to become executive vice president of football operations and chief operating officer.
Arteaga joined Jon Gruden on Tampa Bay's staff in 2002. Arteaga worked directly with Allen, and oversaw all daily football operations for the team while serving as a liaison between Allen and the coaching staff.
Part of Demoff's job responsibilities included negotiating contracts, salary cap management and forecasting, strategic planning and college and pro scouting.
