The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are presently up to 81 players on their roster and have undergone the process of doling out jersey numbers to most of the team's new acquisitions.
Here is a list of the new Buccaneers the team has signed this offseason and their corresponding jersey numbers:
1 WR Jovon Bouknight 4 WR Efrem Hill 5 QB Jeff Garcia 10 QB Bruce Eugene 11 WR David Boston 14 WR Levon Thomas 16 WR Kyle Smith 22 CB Sammy Davis 35 FB B.J. Askew 38 SS Tra Boger 49 LB Evan Benjamin 58 DE/LB Patrick Chukwurah 64 DT Kenny Smith 67 DT Lance Legree 78 LT Luke Petitgout 92 DE Kevin Carter
Jersey Notables Quarterback Jake Plummer and linebacker Cato June have yet to be assigned numbers. Plummer wore 16 in Denver, Arizona and at Arizona State University, and while that number is currently assigned to wide receiver Kyle Smith, it could easily be made available to him if Plummer reports to Tampa Bay.
June wore number 59 at Indianapolis and number 2 at the University of Michigan. The number 59 is available if he wants it.
Defensive end Kevin Carter has always worn the number 93 jersey in the NFL while playing for St. Louis, Tennessee and Miami. That number is currently worn by second-year defensive end Charles Bennett, a seventh-round pick last year that is considered to be a long shot to make the team in 2007. Carter could either stick with number 92, bargain with Bennett for number 93 or perhaps wait to see if Bennett gets released in roster cutdowns and acquire the number before the start of the regular season.
Defensive end/linebacker Patrick Chukwurah wore number 55 and 54 with Denver, but will start over in Tampa Bay with number 58 even though number 54, which he wore last year, is available.
Quarterback Jeff Garcia wore number 7 last year in Philadelphia, but that number is currently occupied by QB Bruce Gradkowski. Garcia is wearing number 5 in Tampa Bay, which was a number he wore during his Pro Bowl days in San Francisco.
Left tackle Luke Petitgout wore number 77 in New York, but will wear number 78 in Tampa Bay as 77 belongs to guard Jeb Terry.
Cornerback Sammy Davis wore 31 last year in San Francisco, but decided to go back to number 22, which he wore for years in San Diego.
Fullback B.J. Askew wore number 35 in New York and he will continue to wear that number in Tampa Bay.
