Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant kicked field goals during Thursday’s practice, but he didn’t handle kickoffs and is still listed as questionable on the team’s injury report.
“He kicked field goals and kicked them good,” Bucs head coach Jon Gruden said after practice. “He made them, so we’re excited about that, but we didn’t overdo it. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow and if he feels better we’ll do a little bit more tomorrow.”
Both Bryant and K Todd France are currently on Tampa Bay’s 53-man active roster. However, Gruden suggested that there was very little chance that the Bucs would activate both kickers for Sunday’s game vs. the Carolina Panthers.
“We would obviously be slighted in some areas, in terms of special teams and things like that,” Gruden said of making two kickers active on game day. “It’s always a possibility but we’d like to not do that.”
Although he’s still listed as probable, linebacker Marquis Cooper didn’t fare particularly well during Thursday’s workout. The Bucs will continue to monitor Cooper’s chest injury, which kept him out of last Sunday’s game, in the days leading up to the Carolina game.
“Marquis Cooper didn’t practice very good today,” said Gruden. “He doesn’t look well. We’ll leave him on the list like he is, but he still looks like he’s hurting a little bit.”
Bucs safety Will Allen, who has missed the past three games due to an ankle injury, fared well in practice and is probable for Sunday’s contest.
