The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost their bid for Kansas City free agent wide receiver Marc Boerigter when he signed a one-year contract with the Green Bay Packers Monday.
The Bucs also have expressed interest in free agent wide receivers Kevin Johnson (Detroit) and Michael Lewis (New Orleans).
The Bucs currently have 13 wide receivers – Joey Galloway, Michael Clayton, Ike Hilliard, Edell Shepherd, Mark Jones, Larry Brackins, Paris Warren, J.R. Russell, Chas Gessner, Terrence Stubbs, Jonathan Carter, Derek McCoy and B.J. Johnson – on their offseason roster.
In other news, Tampa Bay announced Monday that it has released three players – kickers Billy Cundiff and Mike Shafer, and cornerback Jonte Buhl – from its roster.
Cundiff and Shafer were made expendable when the Bucs re-signed K Matt Bryant shortly after the free agent signing period began. The Bucs likely will bring two kickers – Bryant and Xaiver Beitia – into training camp.
