The Buccaneers got an early jump on Saturday’s draft, by moving back up in the third round late Friday night and selecting Kendell Beckwith out of LSU.

Beckwith was injured late in 2016, but was leading the team with 91 tackles, six for loss, before tearing his left ACL against Florida last November, which makes it interesting that the Bucs would select a player coming off a significant injury.

Bucs general manager Jason Licht told the media late Friday night that the Bucs won’t rush him back, but felt his talent level dictated them moving back into the third round to take the 2016 first team All-SEC linebacker.

At 6-2, 243-pounds Beckwith  is being viewed as a strong side linebacker, but Licht said he has the ability to play in the middle as well. The Bucs drafted Sooner linebacker Devante Bond last season, but he missed the season with an injury. Tampa Bay is also high on Adarius Glanton who is all in the mix to replace Daryl Smith at SAM linebacker.

The Louisiana native was a 2016 second-team All-American and three-year starter for the Tigers, finishing his career with 263 tackles, 24.5 for loss and 7.5 sacks.
