LAST WEEK: The Carolina Panthers lost to the Atlanta Falcons, 34-31. Carolina made the game interesting by scoring 21 fourth quarter points, but the Falcons produced 334 yards of total offense, and 204 of those yards came via the ground game. Both teams had four turnovers. Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme completed 24 of 35 passes for 340 yards and tossed two touchdowns and one interception. Defensive end Julius Peppers recovered a fumble and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown. Cornerback Chris Gamble had two interceptions.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers blew a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter and lost to the New Orleans Saints last Sunday, 21-17. Joey Galloway had two touchdowns via the passing and punt return games and the defense recorded seven sacks, 3.5 of which were recorded by defensive end Simeon Rice. But fumbles by fullback Mike Alstott and Michael Pittman proved to be costly and ended up costing the Bucs the game.
THE LAST TIME THESE TWO TEAMS MET: November 28, 2003: Tampa Bay and Carolina clashed at Bank of America Stadium in this contest and the Panthers sent the Bucs home with a 21-14 loss.
BUCS-PANTHERS SERIES: The Buccaneers are 4-4 all-time against the Panthers, including 2-1 in games played in Tampa. The Panthers have won three straight contests against the Bucs.
