The Buccaneers made several moves Monday, placing starting left guard Dan Buenning on injured reserve and signing center Nick Mihlhauser and safety Donte Nicholson to the active roster.

Buenning, who started all 17 games at left guard for the Bucs as a rookie last year, has struggled with injuries this season. After suffering an ankle sprain in Tampa Bay’s preseason finale, Buenning worked his way back into action but had to be carted off the field on Thursday after suffering a serious knee injury during Tampa Bay’s loss to Dallas.

Buenning is the fourth Bucs starter to land on injured reserve this season. Quarterback Chris Simms, cornerback Brian Kelly and defensive end Simeon Rice all were placed on IR before Buenning.

Sean Mahan likely will replace Buenning at left guard.

Mihlhauser (6-3, 305) originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free with the San Diego Chargers last May. He spent a significant amount of the 2006 regular season on San Diego’s practice squad.

Nicholson (6-1, 216), who has played in nine career games, entered the league in 2005 as a fifth-round pick with Tampa Bay. He was released on Sept. 2.

In addition to those roster moves, the Bucs signed defensive tackle Darrell Campbell to their practice squad and released cornerback Carlos Hendricks.

Campbell (6-4, 295) entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2004. He previously played for the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns before signing on to Tampa Bay’s practice squad.
