The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed rookie strong safety Sabby Piscitelli on injured reserve on Wednesday.
Piscitelli, who entered the NFL in April as a second-round draft pick out of Oregon State, fractured his foot on a special teams play during the first half of Tampa Bay’s 24-3 win over St. Louis last Sunday.
The Bucs filled Piscitelli’s 53-man roster spot by promoting wide receiver Chad Lucas from the practice squad.
Lucas originally joined the Bucs by signing on to their practice squad during the 2006 regular season. He spent training camp and preseason with the Bucs before being released earlier this month. Shortly after he was released, Lucas joined Tampa Bay’s practice squad for the second straight year.
In addition to those roster moves, the Bucs made a few other moves on Wednesday, signing tackle Jason Capizzi and wide receiver Michael Spurlock to their practice squad and releasing center/guard Enoka Lucas.
Capizzi originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He spent the first few weeks of his rookie season on the New York Jets’ practice squad before being released on Sept. 18.
This is Spurlock’s second stint with Tampa Bay’s practice squad. He spent just over two weeks with the Bucs’ taxi squad earlier this season.
