BUCCANEERS HEAD COACH JON GRUDEN'S THOUGHTS ON LOSS
"I'm very disappointed and at the same time I'm proud of our team. We hung in there, we fought back. We had a chance and there are numerous reasons that we didn't get it done today, I'm at the top of that list, but our guys played hard, it's a tough place to play and they are a good team."
GRUDEN ON QUARTERBACK JEFF GARCIA'S PLAY
"He did some good things. Our field position was a joke today. I think every drive other than one started from our 20 back towards our goal line and that's tough sledding, but I thought he did some good things with his movement, made some throws, showed some pocket presence and he's coming back to life and that's exciting for us."
GRUDEN ON RECEIVER IKE HILLARD'S TOUCHDOWN CATCH
"We were in our two-minute drill. We need to score quickly and we need to get the ball back and obviously we aren't in our normal game plan. We're in our two-minute mode and Jeff [Garcia] did create, buy some time and Ike Hillard is very instinctive, we've said that for a long time and he makes another play for us."
GRUDEN ON DECISION TO NOT ONSIDE KICK
"Good play. We knew their deployment on their onside return team. They were all bunched together, you saw them between the hashes and we went with the ricochet kick. We asked Matt Bryant to smash right into the pile. If the ricochet is in your favor then you get a chance for a recovery and if the ricochet doesn't work in your favor then you get a chance to pin them with three timeouts left. They come out throwing and basically win the game with Jay Cutler's play on first down throwing the ball. It surprised everybody and that's living dangerously, but I credit them for that."
GRUDEN ON QUARTERBACK BRIAN GRIESE'S INJURY
"Obviously we are concerned. It's another injury at that position and he got hit. It's the right shoulder. I don't know that it is serious, but anytime your quarterback injures his passing arm you're concerned."
QUARTERBACK JEFF GARCIA ON 90-YARD TOUCHDOWN DRIVE
"Finally, obviously, just putting something together. It was a struggle all day long. You have to tip your hat to the way Denver played defensively. For a team that had been struggling on defense they played extremely well and made it hard and the crowd noise made it difficult, but we strung together some plays, receivers made some great catches and the offensive line gave me adequate time to find guys and was able to put enough plays together to find the endzone."
GARCIA ON THE SCORING PASS TO HILLARD
‘Not exactly how you draw it up, but I was able to buy time and extend the play a little bit. He turned up the sideline at the right time as I was throwing the ball, leading him up field. He made a nice catch and got into the endzone but that wasn't necessarily how it was supposed to work initially, but that's what you have to do sometimes. You just have to find a way to make a play."
BUCS RECEIVER MICHAEL CLAYTON ON THE LOSS
"This is our third tough, tough battle in a row and we don't like the taste in our mouths right now. We knew Denver was going to come out and play hard in their home stadium and they did. I'm proud of the team, we gave ourselves an opportunity to win and we've done that every week. We fell short this week. You just have to look forward to next week against Carolina and get this taste out your mouth."
CLAYTON ON GARCIA ENTERING THE GAME DUE TO GRIESE'S INJURY
"It happens. No one wants it to happen like that, but Jeff [Garcia] has been in this situation before, he's a guy who keeps his poise and he can play football. Everybody knows that and we are in a great position to have two good quarterbacks. If something happens we can still go out there and play our game."
BUCS RECEIVER IKE HILLARD NEXT WEEK'S GAME AGAINST CAROLINA
"It's first place next week. We'll have to look at the tape, figure out how we can get better and the biggest game of the season is coming up next week at home."
BUCS SAFETY JERMAINE PHILLIPS' THOUGHTS ON THE GAME
"They just had a good gameplan. I felt like we had a lot of penalties on offense today and defensively, I felt like we could have tackled better. That's just me looking back on the game right now, I haven't look at any tape or anything, but my hat goes off to them. They came up and they were ready to play."
PHILLIPS ON THE BRONCOS TOUCHDOWN
"It was a bubble screen. We had a blitz called, they threw the bubble screen, and he got outside to the corner and they got in there. That's a good play call by them."
BUCS RUNNING BACK WARRICK DUNN ON THE LOSS
"I thought we played well, we were in to the football game, they just made plays in the second half and we weren't able to put drives together to help the football team so offensively we have to get better. Penalties I think killed us when we had a little bit of momentum driving down the field, but we have a good enough team to overcome this so we have to do a better job."
DUNN ON GARCIA'S PLAY
"He's a veteran quarterback, he came in when his number was called and he came in and made plays. He was just sound, real poised and he wanted to lead this team to a victory."
