BUCS HEAD COACH JON GRUDEN ON LOSS TO DALLAS "It was a very, very physical game between both teams and obviously both defenses were very good today. It came down to a play here and a play there and some key penalties I think hurt us on both sides of the ball."
GRUDEN ON THE THIRD-AND-8 PLAY ON LAST DRIVE "We had some shot plays going. We were trying to attack the endzone obviously. They were in a four deep zone and soft and forced us to work underneath. I thought Jeff [Garcia] did a good job with that, putting our team in position for a couple of strikes at the end. But, it was that kind of game. They didn't really play any man-to-man or take any chances. We were able to get the ball down there in range, we just weren't able to get done in the end."
GRUDEN ON LAST FOURTH DOWN PLAY OF THE GAME "It was a very hot day. We made sure everyone had a chance to get a drink there and get settled down. We had a shot play to Galloway and they covered it. They played soft again and we had some answers on the backside, some guys sitting down against the zone. Unfortunately, the Cowboy rush today was very good and we had a hard time resetting and finding Warrick [Dunn] back there and the game was over."
GRUDEN ON THE DEFENSE'S PERFORMANCE "I thought they played great. I was really proud of them. From left corner to right corner, the big guys, the linebackers, everybody played hard. It was a very hot day today. They are a talented team, so they say, and I thought our guys shut them down and played hard and gave the offense some great opportunities, unfortunately, we weren't able to get it done. They scored against us at the end of the first half and that one hurt us, but the defense played very, very well today."
GRUDEN ON IKE HILLIARD'S PERFORMANCE TODAY "How do you explain Ike Hilliard? There is no way he should play, he has to play. It is his calling in life. The guy is the toughest guy I have met."
GRUDEN ON WHAT HE SAID TO TEAM ABOUT FIRST HALF OF SEASON "We are 5-3 and we have lost three games in the closing seconds. So, put it in perspective and we can run the ball, throw the ball, we have a good defense. We have a number of injuries, but we are going to put everything we have right now into the Kansas City game and try to find a way to get to 6-3 and give our guys a bye week that we seriously need at this point and time. The injuries are mounting and at the same time, I'm really proud of our team. They play hard and they have been in a position to win every game."
BUCS QUARTERBACK JEFF GARCIA ON WHY BUCS CALLED TIME OUT BEFORE THEIR FINAL PLAY "We just wanted to try to get the right play called for that situation, a very important situation. It's just too bad we didn't get it done. Our defense played well enough today to give us an opportunity to win this game. In the first half we had missed opportunities, unfortunate penalties inside the redzone that put us in third-and-long situations. We need to be better than that. This was a team where you have to give credit where credit is due. Dallas' backs were against the wall. They came out and played extremely hard defensively, but there is no excuses. We had opportunities today and we let them slip away."
GARCIA ON THE OFFENSIVE STRUGGLING IN THE RED ZONE "In the first half we moved the ball well and that's where the game was unfortunately lost today because I think we had a chance, if we converted some of those drives into touchdowns, we potentially are at 21 points instead of six points. We have to be a better offense. We have to find ways to be better, I have to be better and it's halfway through the season. We are 5-3. We have a good football team. So, this was a tough battle against a good football team and it's time to look forward and look at Kansas City and go take care of business there."
BUCS DEFENSIVE TACKLE CHRIS HOVAN ON THE GAME "It was a tough game. I give credit to Dallas, they pulled it out in the end, but we did some good things. Not enough to win, but we hope to see these guys again later on down the line."
HOVAN ON SLOWING DOWN DALLAS' OFFENSE "The key was getting pressure on Brad [Johnson]. We had to stop Marion [Barber] from getting any extra yardage because he is very good at breaking tackles. So, I wanted to get Brad in the pocket that way he was susceptible to our pass rush and made some plays down at the end."
HOVAN ON THE BUCS' PASS RUSH "The pass rush was of importance this week because we didn't get any sacks the last three weeks and Gaines [Adams] is a special talent. Gaines had two sacks today, Ryan [Sims] had one and I thought we were getting heat from everywhere and in the end we just couldn't close it out."
BUCS RUNNING BACK EARNEST GRAHAM ON TOUGH LOSS "It's pretty simple, when we get down on the short side of the field, we need to come away with more than three points so we definitely have a lot to work on in the next coming weeks, but we have to tip your hat off to them."
