The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a pair of roster moves Saturday, promoting running back Lionel Gates from the practice squad to the active roster.
In order to make room for Gates on their 53-man roster, the Buccaneers released rookie RB Kenneth Darby, a seventh-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.
Gates spent part of the 2006 season on Tampa Bay's practice squad. He also spent the offseason, training camp and preseason with the Bucs before being released in September. Gates was signed to Tampa Bay's practice squad earlier in the week.
The Bucs have four healthy backs — Earnest Graham and Gates and fullbacks B.J. Askew and Zack Crockett — on their roster. Cadillac Williams (knee) is out for the season and Michael Pittman (ankle) is sidelined 6-8 weeks.
