The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a pair of front office personnel moves Monday, promoting director of college scouting Ruston Webster and regional scout Dennis Hickey.
Webster, who spent the past four seasons as Tampa Bay’s director of college scouting, has been promoted to director of player personnel, a move that was likely prompted by the Seattle Seahawks and Miami Dolphins’ reported interest in hiring Webster.
“Ruston has been a dedicated and talented employee for our organization for nearly two decades, and we are pleased to promote him to this new position,” said Bucs general manager Bruce Allen. “In his new role, his responsibilities will include overseeing the pro and college departments. We believe this new structure will enable us to fully maximize our front office talent.”
Webster is entering his 18th season with the Bucs. He originally joined the team in 1988 as a scout for the Northeastern part of the United States. Webster has also spent time as Tampa Bay’s director of pro personnel (1989-91), Southeastern states scout (1992), Midwestern states scout (1993) and Southwest states scout (1995-2000).
“I look forward to working with everyone in my new role,” said Webster. “This position will allow me the opportunity to expand my responsibilities and work closely with our staff on both the college and pro level.”
Hickey, who is entering his 10th season with the Buccaneers, has spent the past seven years serving as the team’s Midwestern states scout. Before he became a scout, Hickey spent two years (1996-97) as a pro personnel assistant with Tampa Bay.
“We are excited to give Dennis this opportunity,” said Allen. “He has earned this promotion with his excellent work ethic over the last nine years.”
As Tampa Bay’s director of college scouting, Hickey will coordinate a staff of regional scouts and manage the gathering of information on college players.
