LAST WEEK: The Oakland Raiders defeated the visiting Buffalo Bills last Sunday, 13-10. Raiders wide receiver Jerry Rice’s catch streak ended at 274 games, but WR Ronald Curry caught five passes for 89 yards and scored the game’s only touchdown on a pass from QB Rich Gannon, who was 19-of-27 for 207 yards on the day. Oakland’s defense held Buffalo’s offense to 243 yards and sacked Bills QB Drew Bledsoe seven times.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers failed to score an offensive touchdown for the second consecutive week en route to losing their home opener to the Seattle Seahawks, 10-6. Tampa Bay’s offensive line allowed five sacks and Bucs head coach Jon Gruden benched quarterback Brad Johnson in the second quarter in favor of second-year signal caller Chris Simms, who led the offense on two 71-yard scoring drives. Unfortunately for the Bucs, those scores were field goals, not touchdowns. Tampa Bay’s defense was outstanding, holding the Seahawks to just 1-of-14 (7 percent) on third down attempts and 182 yards of total offense.

THE LAST TIME THESE TWO TEAMS MET: January 26, 2003: Tampa Bay and Oakland last met in Super Bowl XXXVII. The Buccaneers downed the Raiders in that contest, 48-21. The Bucs defense intercepted Raiders QB Rich Gannon five times and returned three of them for touchdowns. Tampa Bay’s offense produced 365 yards and QB Brad Johnson threw two touchdown passes to WR Keenan McCardell while FB Mike Alstott rushed for another one.
