TWO TEAMS, TWO TURNAROUNDS: Both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Washington Redskins made complete turnarounds from the previous season. The Buccaneers finished the 2004 season with a 5-11 record and responded with an 11-5 mark and division title this year. The Redskins finished last season at 6-10 and finished 10-6 this season.

SIMMS SACKED: After allowing zero sacks in the first meeting with the Redskins, the Bucs offensive line did not last the first offensive series, giving up a sack to ‘Skins defensive end Demetric Evans on quarterback Chris Simms during his first pass attempt of the game. Simms was sacked three times during Saturday’s contest.

RUSHING TD FOR SIMMS: Quarterback Chris Simms took in his first rushing touchdown of the year, a 1-yard scamper midway through the third quarter, to cut the Redskins lead to 17-10. The Buccaneers had the ball first-and-goal after Simms completed a 14-yard strike to tight end Anthony Becht to sustain the scoring drive.

PRO BOWL STARTERS: All three members of the Buccaneers who were elected to the Pro Bowl, cornerback Ronde Barber, linebacker Derrick Brooks and punter Josh Bidwell, were all named as starters for the Pro Bowl contest. The Pro Bowl will be played in Hawaii on February 12.

BUC SHOTS: Quarterback Chris Simms went 25-for-38 for 198 yards and one rushing touchdown. … Running back Cadillac Williams rushed 18 times for 48 yards. … Wide receiver Joey Galloway caught seven passes for 69 yards. Linebacker Shelton Quarles led the defense with 11 tackles. … Defensive end Simeon Rice had one sack, six tackles and one pass defensed.
