After concluding last week's mini-camp and finishing off the team's offseason training program, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking ahead to training camp. On Monday, the Bucs released the schedule for their 2008 training camp. The Buccaneers have held training camp at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex since Jon Gruden became the head coach in 2002.
The Buccaneers will report to Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, FL in 32 days. Players arrive on Friday, July, 25 with the first practice being held Saturday morning on Saturday, July, 26. Training camp lasts 20 days this year, ending on Aug. 14.
A new addition to this year's training camp is a night practice. It will be the first one under Gruden. The night practice was added to help the players prepare for their three scheduled night games in 2008. Gruden also indicated a desire to see how players handle catching kicks under the lights.
Another change for this camp is holding practice under a tent in the afternoon. Those practices are closed to the public, and the Buccaneers will be holding four of those sessions. Inclement weather could move other practices under the tent as well.
This year, the Bucs have 13 two-a-day practices. The Buccaneers will hold seven two-a-day practice sessions before getting their first day off. On a typical day, Tampa Bay will have their morning practice in pads and the afternoon practice will be in shorts. The Bucs will have their first two practices in shorts before putting the pads on in the third day.
The Buccaneers will finish camp on Thursday, August 14. Their preseason home opener is against New England on Sunday, August 17. That game will be broadcast nationally on NFL Network. After breaking camp the Bucs will continue to prepare for the season at their Tampa practice facility at One Buccaneer Place.
Key ST – Special teams-only practice. Fans should be aware that some players do not attend these practices. WT – Walk-through. These are very brief and are run at half-speed. * – Practice may be moved into a tent, where it will be closed to the public.
