In addition to trading for Kansas City RB Michael Bennett, the Buccaneers made two more roster moves Tuesday, releasing RB Lionel Gates from the active roster and signing rookie RB Kenneth Darby to the eight-man practice squad.
Darby, who originally entered the NFL with the Bucs as a 2007 seventh-round draft pick out of Alabama, rushed 33 times for 135 yards (4.1 avg.) and one touchdown in preseason.
The 5-foot-11, 215-pound Darby was promoted to Tampa Bay’s active roster on Oct. 3 after spending the first month of the season on the practice squad. However, Darby was released on Saturday.
Gates originally joined the Bucs in 2006 as a practice squad member. He also spent training camp and preseason with the Bucs before being released in early September. Gates was signed to Tampa Bay’s practice squad last week and took Darby’s place on the Bucs’ active roster for the game vs. the Tennessee Titans.
