Following the team’s 48-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, which dropped Tampa Bay to 1-5 on the season, the Buccaneers have released running back Jeff Demps from the practice squad. Following the loss, Bucs head coach Lovie Smith hinted that talent was an issue at some positions and that a roster shake-up could be coming.
“It’s happened too many times, so we do have to make improvements and look at our roster, and any other,” Smith said. “We have a week. The good part about it is we have a bye week coming up. We have a little bit of time to see what direction we need to go. But, of course, we need to change course.”
Demps could be the first of several players released this week as Tampa Bay heads into the bye week looking for the right personnel to get its second win of the 2014 season. The Bucs host the Minnesota Vikings following the bye week.
