Bucs safety Chris Conte was placed on IR with a knee injury, head coach Lovie Smith confirmed Friday.

“It’s disappointing,” Smith said after practice. “Chris has done some good things for us this year. We needed all of our horses this week but that’s how it goes with injuries. Other guys will have to step up, which we’ve had to do throughout.”
After signing with Tampa Bay in March, the former Bear has been arguably the Bucs best safety in 2015. In 14 games with 13 starts Conte tallied 79 tackles, fourth on the team, as well as forced two fumbles while proving his ability to play physical against the run and short passing game.
Conte, who’s set to become a free agent in the offseason after playing through a one-year, $1.5 million deal, expressed his desire to stay in Tampa, playing for a team he believes is close to becoming a playoff contender.
As SR wrote in the latest Fab 5 column, Conte could be deemed a keeper by the front office but it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll offer him a premium contract.
Time will tell if the Bucs keep Conte beyond 2015, but he certainly made a great case to stay during his first year with the team.

Pingback: Bucs S Conte Placed On IR - Buccaneer Bruce
Glad injured players who have no chance of playing are being put on IR; at least we get another PS player having an opportunity to make the active roster. Go Bucs!
Agree with you Horse. The last three players added were all DB’s. What does that tell you.
I agree Conte has been our best DB. Rarely out of position or misses a tackle.
OH look another one of lovies bears cast offs on the IR. As for his work this year DRD, I can think of at least 4 times myself where he was vastly out of position for TD’s. He was ok to start he season and regressed like the rest of the defense as the season went on.
