The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed rookie quarterback Jared Allen on Thursday.

Allen, who was one of two quarterbacks the Bucs signed to tryout contracts last weekend, played in 47 career games (42 starts) at Florida Atlantic University. Allen completed 56.8 percent of his passes and threw for 8,100 yards, 50 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.

The Bucs currently have five quarterbacks — Brian Griese, Chris Simms, Luke McCown, Allen and Akili Smith — on their offseason roster. Smith is currently playing over in NFL Europe.

The Bucs made two additional roster moves on Thursday, releasing wide receiver Scotty Anderson and safety Eli Ward.

In other news, New York Giants free agent WR Ike Hilliard is expected to arrive in Tampa on Thursday evening to sign a one-year contract with Tampa Bay.
