Bucs Sign T Green, Release QB Fiedler

The first wave of NFL roster cuts took place on Tuesday. That’s when the Buccaneers released 13 players and placed quarterback Luke McCown on the physically unable to perform list.

But trimming their roster to the league-mandated amount of 75 players didn’t stop the Bucs from making more roster moves on the eve of their preseason finale vs. the Houston Texans.

Tampa Bay made two roster moves Wednesday, signing offensive tackle Cornell Green and releasing quarterback Jay Fiedler.

Green re-joins the Bucs after a two-year stint with the Denver Broncos. He originally joined Tampa Bay in 2002 when the Bucs sent the Miami Dolphins a seventh-round draft pick in exchange for his services.

A former Central Florida standout, Green spent the past two seasons with the Denver Broncos, where he played in 14 games. With Tampa Bay tackles Torrin Tucker and Kenyatta Walker suffering from their respective knee ailments, the Bucs didn’t waste any time signing Green when Denver released him on Aug. 29.

Fiedler, 34, signed a one-year contract with the Bucs in late-June, but his surgically repaired throwing shoulder never came around in time for him to participate in training camp or preseason.

The Bucs have three quarterbacks – Chris Simms, Tim Rattay and Bruce Gradkowski – on their current roster.
