Although they recently re-signed Ike Hilliard, Tampa Bay still is interested in adding more wide receivers to its offseason roster.

Pat Dye, who is the agent for New York Giants unrestricted free agent WR Tim Carter, told PewterReport.com on Thursday that he and Bucs general manager Bruce Allen have exchanged contract proposals.

Carter, 26, has played in 37 games (three starts) since entering the NFL out of Auburn in 2002. He’s caught 50 career passes for 714 yards (14.3 avg.) and one touchdown.

Last season, the 6-foot, 200-pound Carter, who is regarded as a speedster, hauled in just 10 passes for 186 yards (18.6 avg.) in 15 games.

The Bucs appear to be determined to add another speedy receiver to their offense, evidenced by their interest in Carter and Kansas City free agent WR Marc Boerigter, who visited One Buc Place last week.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Tampa Bay is scheduled to visit with New Orleans free agent WR Michael Lewis sometime next week.

Lewis, 34, has played in 53 games (two starts) since entering the NFL in 2001. He’s caught just 28 passes for 553 yards (19.8 avg.) and one touchdown.

The 5-foot-8, 173-pound Lewis, who goes by the nickname “The Beer Man” because of the job he held as a beer truck driver before entering the NFL, made a name for himself as a kick and punt returner in New Orleans.

Considered one of the fastest and most electric return men to ever play in the NFL, Lewis has returned 206 career kickoffs for 4,989 yards (24.2 avg.) and three touchdowns. Tampa Bay has never returned a kickoff for a touchdown in a regular season game during its 30 years of existence.

In addition to his ability as a kick returner, Lewis can return punts, evidenced by his 126 career attempts for 1,371 yards (10.9 avg.) and one touchdown.

Lewis played in just two games last season before sustaining torn knee ligaments that required season-ending surgery last September.
