The Buccaneers trimmed their 80-man roster to 75 players by the NFL-mandated 4:00 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday by making several roster moves.
Tampa Bay placed running back Cadillac Williams on the Reserve/Physically Unable To Perform list and waived/injured linebacker Antoine Cash, cornerback Sammy Davis and safety Donte Nicholson.
In addition, the Bucs released wide receiver Paris Warren from their roster to get down to 75 players.
Williams, a 2005 first-round draft pick, suffered a torn patellar tendon in Week 4 of the 2007 regular season. While he has made significant progress in terms of rehabbing his surgically repaired knee, the Bucs have not deemed Williams fit to play yet.
By placing him on the Reserve/PUP list, the Bucs have until Week 6 to decide whether to activate him to the active roster or place him on injured reserve.
Cash, who suffered a season-ending knee injury during the 2007 preseason, had turned in an impressive training camp before he sustained a neck injury that caused him to be carted off of the field during Saturday night's preseason contest vs. Jacksonville.
Although he spent the night in the hospital, Cash's neck injury was not deemed serious. He is expected to make a full recovery in a few weeks.
Davis originally joined Tampa Bay as an unrestricted free agent in 2007. He was released just before the start of the '07 regular season, but was re-signed and spent the rest of the season on the active roster. He sustained a hip injury in training camp and the ailment limited him in practice and preseason games.
Nicholson was competing with Will Allen for a roster spot in training camp and preseason. He had performed well until he sustained a knee injury that will require surgery this week.
Warren entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick with the Buccaneers in 2005. He turned in an outstanding preseason in 2007 before suffering a horrific ankle injury vs. Houston that required surgery and ended his '07 campaign before the regular season even started.
The Buccaneers are scheduled to play their fourth and final preseason game vs. the Texans in Houston at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Each NFL team will have a second wave of roster cuts on Aug. 30, which is when the Buccaneers will announce their 53-man roster by parting ways with 22 more players.
