Tampa Bay rookie wide receiver Sammie Stroughter was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 6 on Wednesday.

Stroughter, a 2009 seventh-round draft pick, became just the third player in franchise history to return a kickoff for a touchdown in Tampa Bay's 28-21 loss to Carolina. His 97-yard kickoff return for a score tied the franchise record held by Clifton Smith for longest kickoff return in team history.

Stroughter had three kickoff returns for 142 yards and one score vs. Carolina. He could be called on to handle more return duties since Smith, the player he replaced, suffered a concussion and throat injury due to cheap shot by Panthers cornerback Dante Wesley, who was suspended one game without pay for the incident.
