Just one day after being named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press, Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Carnell “Cadillac” Williams was named Offensive Rookie of the Month on Thursday.
Williams, who produced 1,178 rushing yards (4.1 avg.) and six rushing touchdowns in his rookie season, rushed for 462 yards and three touchdowns in five games during the months of December and January (Jan. 1 games were included in the December award). The Bucs produced a 4-1 record during that five-game stretch.
This award marks the second time this season that Williams has been named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month. He first received that award back in September.
In other news, Bucs defensive end Simeon Rice, who missed Wednesday’s workout due to illness, practiced on Thursday. He’s been taken off of the injury report.
Bucs starting strong safety Jermaine Phillips (knee) is still questionable for Saturday’s game and will be a game-time decision. Should Phillips not play vs. the Washington Redskins, second-year S Will Allen would start in his place.
